Pretty soon, it will be all powdercoated and purty. A little bit of welding, a little bit of grinding, and a little bit of $aving, and a new compressor and sexiness will abound. 2 new trim pieces coming too.
BigDog107 09-29-2009, 12:48 PM Thats pretty darn neat
TN4x4Xterra 09-29-2009, 12:49 PM nice!
2 Trim pieces? I like it James very nice!
silverbullet 09-29-2009, 06:55 PM sick!
Noxious007 09-30-2009, 09:10 AM that is really tight soccerbrace.
Quick question after looking through your build thread. I see you have the smittybuilt clinometer all wired up. I have looked all over to figure out if it is 5v or 12v, but can't seem to find jack.
How did you wire yours up?
soccerbrace 09-30-2009, 09:23 AM Thanks dude! I What I did is I wired mine up to the dimmer switch. This way, whenever the gauges are on, the inclinometer is on as well. It also dims with the rest of them.
soccerbrace 10-06-2009, 04:57 PM Alright....sliders are gone.
Next to come, a second set of custom sliders that will integrate into the exoskeleton.:)
After the rack is completed.
TN4x4Xterra 10-06-2009, 05:00 PM So the rack will be finished tonight and you'll be providing us pics tomorrow, right? ;)
soccerbrace 10-06-2009, 05:04 PM I have to get a fire extinguisher bracket for the back. I went to the only place that has like EVERYTHING safety, and I could not find it. That is what I did during my lunch break, drove and got pissed. Once that is there, the I can weld that on.
Next, I just have to drill some holes in the angle iron to place the wiring loom clips. That is it.
Steeze 10-06-2009, 05:53 PM Bitchin James
prettyboyfab 10-07-2009, 10:14 AM Looks Hot.....
soccerbrace 10-29-2009, 07:39 AM Alright, you guys wanted some updated pics, so here it is! Here are some better, more detailed pics of the rusted hatch:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/10-18-200928.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/10-18-200927.jpg
I think you guys might be starting to like that look now. I bought $40 worth of new emblems, and recently(not pictured), I painted my rear hatch handle and the little plastic turd on the gas door.
Also, there are highly anticipated pictures or the acclaimed cargo rack. It is at powdercoating today so here are the finished UNpainted pics.
Huge thanks to Concept-Customs for the time and effort on this never-ending project.
sweet nose-ITCHING ( I promise) pic, athough I do still pick and flick, and occasionally pick and chew if the current food could use a little salt.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/10-18-200924.jpg
Sorry about the last pic, I cannot rotate it bc there is something wrong with Photobucket at the moment.
Anyway, That is a 3Dcell maglight, this maglight holder that had to be modified, a steel fire extinguisher holder that was welded on there, a Kidde fire extinguisher with a gauge, a Tripp-lite 750 inverter, and a VIAIR 480P. We mounted the Viair with 4 nuts welded on the back and washers with wingnuts so that it could be quick mounted and dismounted for portable operation.
Steeze 10-29-2009, 07:50 AM Dude I love the hatch and upside down Emblems.... classy.
Nice work James
BigDog107 10-29-2009, 08:50 AM Dude that is sick. I like the rust! I didn't at first...but I like it now! SICK!
TimRich 10-29-2009, 09:20 AM Lovin the hatch!!! The lobo rack is awesome!
soccerbrace 10-29-2009, 09:27 AM Thanks all! I knew people would like the rusted hatch when they actually got a decent pic of it.
MidWest_Surfer 10-29-2009, 10:06 AM not gonna lie to you dude, those first pix of the hatch looked like CRAP but once those few little light spots fill in i think i will look pretty good, congrats on something new
soccerbrace 10-29-2009, 10:51 AM Yeah, the first PICS looked like crap, but the hatch itself never did. When it is wet, it looks like real tree camo.
MidWest_Surfer 10-29-2009, 11:01 AM yeah it doesnt look bad now at all, btw the upside down emblems look sick
Steeze 10-29-2009, 11:08 AM I think you should rust the whole truck and paint all your bumpers, sliders, and exo a gloss black...
That would look so sick
soccerbrace 10-29-2009, 11:21 AM I think it would look sick but serious deterioration would happen on so many parts. I do not want to replace a rocker or something like that because of on purpose rusting you know? That ish would get expensive.
Steeze 10-29-2009, 11:53 AM What if you rusted it and then had a clear coat applied over the rust... I bet if you had a couple layers of auto grade clear coat professionally sprayed on it would retain the look without further deterioration.
soccerbrace 10-29-2009, 12:29 PM Yeah, I hav ethought about that. There is a clear coat for this. I just do not want it to flake off and look like crap.
Steeze 10-29-2009, 01:14 PM Yeah, I hav ethought about that. There is a clear coat for this. I just do not want it to flake off and look like crap.
That's why you have professionals spray it with a couple coats of high quality clear coat... it won't flake off.
Do it.... it would be epic and totally original
Roadwarrior 10-29-2009, 01:47 PM That's why you have professionals spray it with a couple coats of high quality clear coat... it won't flake off.
Do it.... it would be epic and totally original
i totally agree. a whole x, rusted? totally unique
however i had an brainchild from your original shot when you took the paint off. i want mine totally brushed steel then clearcoated. now to get the money, someone to do it. and parental consent (i still live at home ): )
soccerbrace 10-29-2009, 02:07 PM Yeah, the bare metal would be pretty sweet, but I cannot see it being that cool past the tailgate.
Roadwarrior 10-29-2009, 03:05 PM Yeah, the bare metal would be pretty sweet, but I cannot see it being that cool past the tailgate.
i was just thinking about the hood and tailgate.. the whole x would be interesting...
bluex 10-29-2009, 03:28 PM I just don't get it...but if you r happy that all that matters :D
Steeze 10-29-2009, 04:30 PM Did a quick Photoshop....

KJE300 11-13-2009, 10:34 PM Very nice!! Great Truck!
soccerbrace 11-26-2009, 10:05 AM Looks the same really but I did notice a little bit of a texture change. It seems like it is not as smooth. I am thinking more and more that I am going to do a little clear coating
Looks the same really but I did notice a little bit of a texture change. It seems like it is not as smooth. I am thinking more and more that I am going to do a little clear coating Is the streaking on the raised portion(First-aid) gone?
soccerbrace 11-27-2009, 08:33 AM Nah, my bulge is not streaking.
TimRich 11-27-2009, 09:55 AM nah, my bulge is not streaking.
lmao!!!!
soccerbrace 11-27-2009, 10:47 AM Alright, here are the new plastic pieces with the seatbelt rectractor hole cut, trim installled, and the quick disconnect military terminal for my harness.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/11-13-2009189.jpg
Here are a fe pics of the final product outside of the vehicle. It cost me $157 to have it powdercoated and beadblasted.

MonsterBandit 11-27-2009, 11:27 AM looks sick james...going back to the rust for a min...what about doin a "ratrod" style paint job? you could do spots around the truck with rust and then paint the rest with flat paint and not clear it that way you dont have to worry about early deterioration with the rockers and other stuff ur worried about...that way you have your rust and then have your problem areas painted...its a win/win
soccerbrace 11-27-2009, 11:47 AM Ehh, I am just not into the whole rat rod look unless it was like a 32 hi-boy or something like that. I am just not into it for the modern imports. I do appreciate the suggestion though.
J Everett 11-27-2009, 11:57 AM James, your interior rack is sick, and your entire X is an inspiration. Keep it up mate!
soccerbrace 11-27-2009, 12:03 PM James, your interior rack is sick, and your entire X is an inspiration. Keep it up mate!
Hey thanks!:) I appreciate it.
lookin good james
our should i call you 'randy watson'
http://www.imperfectenjoyment.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/randy-watson.jpg
soccerbrace 11-27-2009, 04:41 PM Thanks bro! Why Randy watson? Facial hair?
soccerbrace 12-22-2009, 11:29 AM Alright dudes......SAS is coming.
MonsterBandit 12-22-2009, 12:00 PM full install thread? eh eh? picture heavy?
Alright dudes......SAS is coming.
Are you keeping your UCA's when you do the SAS? Not sure if your going to need different ones..
soccerbrace 12-22-2009, 01:17 PM No they will be for sale along with my entire steering system. Possibly keeping the pitman arm, but that is it.
I will definitely want to pick those up when your selling them..
I just read through 299 posts of the most bad-assed modding I've ever seen, and no updates since December 99? DOOD?!?
That lobo rack is unbelieveable. I'll pay you for a copy of the plans, or a full blown product if your guy can make another one.
Drake 07-09-2010, 06:08 AM Yeah James lost his internet at his home and CX has been blocked where he works so he hasn't been able to check in or update anything in quite a while. We are all anxious to see what becomes of his beast. Should be bad ass but then again, I wouldn't expect anything less.
peewee 07-20-2010, 02:25 PM I just read through this entire thread for about the 10th time. It never gets old. One day I will have a rig full of this much badassery. One day...
Xterror04 09-10-2010, 03:06 PM Bump for new members
soccerbrace 09-10-2010, 03:10 PM Thanks dudes! I appreciate the big ups. I wish I could say that there is something new and cool with my truck but not true.
J Everett 09-10-2010, 03:12 PM Bump for new members
Good call! Shelby is one of my favorite Xterra's, and folks new to the sight need to see her!
TimRich 09-10-2010, 04:35 PM Agreed Jason!
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 11:02 AM OK, well my Christmas present to myself was these tires. My other tires were SOOOOO bad. My alignment is still really off, but here they are

Steeze 12-21-2010, 11:05 AM are you back on a stock suspension
Drake 12-21-2010, 11:06 AM Did you have to do any trimming to the front to fit those? :mocking:
Glad to see you revive this thread bro. It's been idle for too long. :D
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 11:35 AM Brandon, still have the Calmini 3" and the 2" BL on there.
Drake thanks man! Shelby has been good, and she deserved a nice present.
The rubbing only occurs in reverse. It DID happen in Drive, but I turned the wheels left and smacked the pinch seam in with my sledge, and repeated for the other side. I can get still turn all the way in it and I have just as tight of a steering radius.
Drake 12-21-2010, 11:46 AM I think I'll wait on stuffing 35's under mine until I get that solid thing under the front end. ;)
But damn it's tempting! :D
Broden21 12-21-2010, 11:59 AM i love it, it looks so sad but yet so bad ass at the same time
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 12:01 PM i love it, it looks so sad but yet so bad ass at the same time
Lol, right!? Sad from the front end, badass from the front doors back? lol
Xterror04 12-21-2010, 12:07 PM Where did the front bumper go? Your truck is so badass but yet so ugly lol
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 12:21 PM Where did the front bumper go? Your truck is so badass but yet so ugly lol
yeah, I know! I usually ENTER FROM BEHIND.
Drake 12-21-2010, 12:22 PM Hah! Shelby is a butterface! Everything is sexy "but her face."! :hilarious:
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 12:38 PM Lol, yeah, I just came up with her last name. I plan on doing something Alex-ish up front. It's just not in the budget. I am still paying for the tires lol.
Drake 12-21-2010, 12:40 PM That's the route I thought you were planning on. It will look wicked when you do get it done.
Do you still have those D60's laying around?
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 12:53 PM Yeah, they are halfway built. On a freeze due to budget. I have all the SC X rims off and I was going to use those for the SAS. I would have to put Chevy ends on my Ford axle to make that bolt pattern work. It's all about the budget right now. THat's the only thing holding me back. 2 years ago, I was putting about $500 a month into my X, now I just put gas in her.
Drake 12-21-2010, 12:59 PM Know the feeling brother. I finally got some extra cash and it's going to a timing belt kit and water pump and some other maintenance stuff.
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 01:13 PM Got ya, looks like I am going to have to dump some more money into my IFS too :(
I just did a spindle and bearings and crap too! :(
Krisnherx 12-21-2010, 04:14 PM So now you and 06_Footy both have Xs named Shelby
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 04:16 PM WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????? He copied me, Mine has been Shelby before his X was an apple in her momma's eye
Krisnherx 12-21-2010, 04:19 PM Haha I don't quite know if he knew that that was what you named yours.
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 04:26 PM Of course he did! Your boyfriend worships me!
Krisnherx 12-21-2010, 04:26 PM He's not my boyfriend. lolz
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 04:29 PM Oh! What are the chance of a guy like you and a girl like me?
Krisnherx 12-21-2010, 04:32 PM ^^^^^^^^^^ re-reading is a must!
soccerbrace 12-21-2010, 04:36 PM Movie quotes are a must!
bluex 12-21-2010, 05:10 PM James your X is so bad ass!! I wish Shelby & BlueX could wheel together...that would be sweet!!! :D
theemcgee 12-24-2010, 01:01 PM sweet rig man, thanks again for your help
Nice shoes. I just put some 285's on mine and I've got a little bit of rubbing on the passenger side. Of all the things it could hit, it's hitting the hose cover which I never moved up after the body lift.
I have to go back and read through your thread to figure out how you caved in the rad.
soccerbrace 12-29-2010, 06:21 PM 285 is the width ;) But thank you! That is the condensor, and it was in an accident before I owned it.
Cripes, I never could speak metric. 285/70/17.
soccerbrace 12-30-2010, 05:13 PM :), I just actually pulled the hose cover off completely, my 33" tires rubbed that like crazy
soccerbrace 02-28-2011, 03:47 PM So, my buddy who was storing my Dana 60's got a jeep, and I had to take them back into my possession. This means that I have 2 dana 60s in my apt. lol 1 at the foot of my bed, and the other is hangin out in my living room :).
Luckily, I just so happen to be getting back on my feet again at the same time. I have decided that my sidework money is my play money now. With that said, I pulled a few parts (disc brake conversion brackets) and rear differential covers and took them to Rocky mountain memorials. They do gravestones. They sandblasted all of those parts for $25 bucks and they did an incredible job. Next, I took them to Excalibur powdercoaters and they are going to powdercoat them in a dark hammered gray
http://img.hisupplier.com/var/userImages/old/powdercoating/powdercoating$513134229.jpg
From there, I am going to rust the skull in the middle, and do my gas tank lid at the same time. Will post up when I am done :)
Also, I picked up 4 of these:

zachbiz 02-28-2011, 08:34 PM nice dude so does that mean you are going to be swapping in the near future? also, i must ask, why on earth would you spend $440 on ujoints?
soccerbrace 03-01-2011, 10:27 AM so you don't buy $20 u-joints 50x :) Plus they were already with the axle shafts that I got, so they were part of the axle purchase.
As far as swapping soon, lol, no, it will not be in the NEAR future at least.
Badbet 03-01-2011, 10:28 AM James you are a mad man, this x is nasty!
zachbiz 03-01-2011, 10:38 AM Oh ok. What kind of suspension are you going for? Soa or 3 link or what?
soccerbrace 03-01-2011, 11:58 AM 4 link front and rear

TimRich 03-12-2011, 07:15 PM James, looks bad ass! Can't wait to see the SAS come together. Shelby is one of a kind!
01NissanXterra 03-12-2011, 08:13 PM sick looking X bro. deff would not want to run into your X with mine!

soccerbrace 03-14-2011, 11:53 AM yer 60s are missing s couple pieces :)
cant wait to see her rolling big
Thanks guys! Brian, I have about 75% of the goodies including gears, u-joints, inner and outer axle shafts, and the ARB locker :) am spending the next paycheck on gettting all of the internal parts that I need. That is what I went for first. Then comes all of the outside stuff which I am kinda touching on right now. but I wanna get all of the internal stuff taken care of first.
Badbet 11-10-2011, 07:06 PM ::cricket cricket::
soccerbrace 12-25-2011, 09:02 AM Yep, pretty much. It's cold here.
Heavus 12-30-2011, 03:02 AM Just read every page. I cannot believe i never read this build thread.. I always thought the title of the thread was about Carroll Shelby :/
AWESOOOOME. crazy mods. that interior rack is nuts. the whole X is nuts.
Oh! What are the chance of a guy like you and a girl like me?
^ haha Jim Carrey rocks
Brian01Xterra 12-30-2011, 04:18 AM Very nice X my friend
NM2000Xterra 12-30-2011, 11:23 AM Ditto Heavus - can't believe I never took the time to read this thread before. Unbeevable...
James, just when I thought your X couldn't possibly be any sicker, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!
