I am looking at the Xterra. I was in the market for a used Cherokee. I don't know alot about this vehicle so any input would be great! What trim model is best? Is 4X4 a must or is the 4X2 capable enough? What about the off-road capabilities? Please feel free to send me any info that you think would be helpful. I will compile all the info and try to make the best decision. Thanks, and I hope to be a proud owner in a couple of weeks!!

the 4X4 is great for snow here is SD. It will however eat more gas.....

I doubt I will off road this vehicle much since it will be brand new. I live in Texas, so I probably will never need it, so I guess I should just save the money and get a 4X2. What kind of reliability does this vehicle have?

from what ive read before I jumped into buying mine they sound as if they are bulletproof. Im a member on a few gun sites and there are alot of owners with them and have never touched anything but the oil filter. there are 4-5 with 200,000+ miles and not a thing wrong.

Winner of the 2006 Motor Trend SUV of the Year...enough said. ;)
If you never (ever) plan to off-road then get the 2wd and be happy. But I fear that once you own the X, the desire to take it off pavement will be to great to resist.

I would only take off-road if I had to. With it being brand new, I would have no desire to take off-road. Just too nice!!

Ya say that now. :)
There are way too many stories of people buying the 4x2 and then wishing they bought a 4x4.

My point exactly. My dad is saying that right now. He has a 4x2 Tundra and really want a 4x4 now. It's better to have it and never use it then to not have it and need it.
