ok so i turned on my x the other day and it was making a weird noise almost like a chattering. When i opened the hood it looked like i was coming from the lower pulleys or in the area i lubed up the belts and still nothing changed. The noise is almost like a scrapping sound . if anyone knows what to do please help. i have a 2001 xtera 3.3

Is it possibly your fan slapping against the lower radiator shroud? Is the sound in rhythm with the motor or is it a random chatter?

in rythem with the motor i pulled off my sheild to look at the lower pulleys the sound is deffinatly coming from the three pulleys that are right next to eachother.
they are like the biggest ones i dont know what they are called or what to do about it .

ok soo i took the x to nissan, which i must say was the nicest dealership ive ever been to. they did a quick look over and basically told me it coudl be a number of things. They were however leaning towards the timming belt pulley in that when they replaced the timing belt only 2000 miles prior to this happening they may have not tightend the sprocket on the tension pulley or somthing of that sort so that now its moved enough rub up agaist the cassing . I just hope im ok because i have a 100 mile hike home tonight worrying the whole time my timing belt is going to fall off. I would deffinatly appreciate any kind of advice or reasurence that this wont happen haha.

Maybe they will claim responsibility, maybe just a tensioner pulley bearing or something
