Ok..I recently bought my first XT - a 2007, and it's time for a 30K Service. Dealer is trying to sell me a $500+ pkg of oil change, air filter, rotate tires, trans flush, radiator flush, battery service, throttle body cleanup, climate svs, & replace cabin flilter. Is this standard? Sounds expensive for just that. My manual doesn't list the throttle body cleanup. I can have the tires rotated and get an oil change elsewhere. What about the rest? I don't want to get taken advantage of. Thanks.

change the tranny fluid, diff fluid
you really dont need the flushes at 30k
you should CHECK the in cabin filter
dunno about climate svs(or what it is even) but i dont think you need it either cuz its never been discussed here, lol(but i could be wrong)
tires could be rotated

so, in my honest and semi experinced opinion all you need is
check air filter
check in cabin filter
check the spark plugs
change transmission fluid
change differential fluid

i know other will either chime in to agree or correct me
in either case, we wont steer you wrong!

Thank you so much. Any input is welcomed. They said air conditioning/heater system is checked when they perform the "climate service". I can see having it looked at if it begins to give me problems. I've seen so much bad press recently on how some shops say they have performed service and then hidden cameras show they don't do it. Being female I've become paranoid about what really needs to be done and what doesn't. Thanks again for your input. Ü

You should be cautious, or paranoid even, as long as you can protect yourself. There is definitely a lot of that going on. A lot of shops will take advantage of a mechanically inexperienced person, and either perform unnecessary maintenance, or charge for unperformed maintenance. Some will even make things up like flushing your blinker fluid or changing your muffler bearing.

I wouldn't mess with the climate system unless it gives you problems. The cabin filter could be checked, but odds are shaking it out or blowing it off with compressed air or cleaning with a vacuum may suffice. Or it might be fine anyway.

I'd also agree that it doesn't need a tranny flush. Changing the fluid would be enough, maybe a new filter.

Diffs might need a fluid change, doesn't hurt usually if it hasn't been done since the gears were originally installed and broken in.

Spark plugs are usually fine, but wouldn't hurt to inspect them.

The air filter should be checked, but probably doesn't "need" replaced yet. Depends on where it's been driven, but if it's mainly road it's probably fine.

Throttle body cleanup sounds like a scam, never seen a dirty one at 30K personally.

If you look in the manual you can see what Nissan recommends

How long have you owned the vehicle? Did you buy it new or used? Have you had any servicing done on it previously?
Sorry for the questions but the answers affect what I would consider peace of mind going ahead.
Engine, differential, and transfercase oil and filter I would change.
Air filter and A/C incabin filter I would change.
Auto trans or gearbox fluid I would drain and refill.
Tire rotation I would do.

The rest I would leave for at least another year or 60K miles. The sparkplugs should be good for about 100K.

I just got the X this month. I bought it used. Prior servicing record is unknown. Prior owner was a major rental company--the only owner. Carfax didn't list any service dates on its report, but that doesn't mean it didn't have some. I've been reading some articles that say its good to clean out the throttle body frequently--some say you don't need to. This is confusing. I looked behind my glove box for the in-cabin filter. There isn't one that is obvious to the eye. Would it be in plain sight? Maybe it didn't come with one, but I thought they were stock.

i believe they were an option fo rthe 1st gen
if it dosent have one you can buy one and install it
if you cleaned your TB you'd be the first xterra owner that ive ever heard mention doing it

There is quite a bit of information that can be found here: http://thenewx.org/index.php

I found my 05 Jeep Liberty (JUNK) ran better ( a lot!) with throttle body cleaning every 20K miles. It took about 1/2 hour and $5.00 for the spray. I will do it in my 07 Xterra just beacuse it is easy and cheap. Most local garages will do the same for $45 to $75 around the Philadelphia area. I replace the jeep at 72K miles when the tranny wore out.
