Who's got 'em and where are they mounted?

I'm gonna pick up a fire extinguisher (possibly 2) to put in my X because a few OHV areas here require them to be in/on the vehicle in order to enter their park. Plus, it's really not a bad idea to have one on the trail/road.

Just wondered if any of you tote one in your rig or your trailer queen and if so, where do you have yours mounted (pics would be nice).

I just velcroed one on the back left panel, horizontal, right under the cargo cover, over the wheel well hump ...dang velcro adhesive keeps coming off the plastic panel...I hate to use screws but I see no other choice...I used the heavy duty velcro and even let the adhesive set for a day. Just wont support the weight.

Well lets see: first select the type of extinguisher best for your needs
If it is for your vehicle only, underhood fires are rare on modern autos
Example, in my hot rod days I preferred a co2 extinguisher because fuel and backfire fires were common during mods and repairs and with the co2 there is no clean up or residue damage, but now they are costly to refill and maintain, so u can choose from the aerosol cans of a brine salt solution for kitchens or a commercial type BC or ABC or even a A (2.5gal H2O) that is fun for a campfire that gets out of hand, or to play with on a hot day but cumbersome and large, so it comes down to the BC or ABC of at least 5#
The ABC will be more effective on rubbish fires wood, paper, fabric, but the chemical used (yellow powder) is really a mess to clean up, and contains a "nusiance dust" that is really nasty on sweaty skin and eyes, so I prefer the BC, good old fashon bicarb, you will thank yourself if you go ahead and get the tension clamp type bracket, I mount them on all my vehicles usually the rear cargo floor, just run some self tapping screws thru the carpet, where it can be easily retrieved after popping the hatch....

That's a good location and mount. I like that. I've been trying to find this "vest" I saw on Personal Defense TV the other day. It's a slip over seat organizer but it's basically a tactical vest. It has a pocket large enough for a fire extinguisher and I can carry my pistol concealed in it as well. Just picture a SWAT tactical vest that fits over your seat with all of the pockets on the back. I thought Blackhawk made it but I can't find it.

Well after seeing this guy go up past us, flip over, and burst into flames....I suddenly discovered that there aren't nearly enough fire extinguishers on the trail. I've been meaning to get one...

If you look closely you can see his tire sticking up in the air. We could do nothing but throw dirt and snow on it until it finally went out, then tow him out. I think it took till about 3 AM to get that guy back to camp, as the people he was wheeling with ditched him. :usuck: Sucks to be at the back of the line with people who don't care.

Damn! Talk about ending your day on the trails.

Some parks now won't allow you on the property without a fire extinguisher. And also, it may not be your rig you have to use it on. Definitely something that will pay for itself in one use.

I wish, it was just the beginning. The reason he passed us was cause my friend snapped a 1480 u-joint in the D60 of his K5 blazer. And we were in a very bad spot on a LONG, STEEP, unforgiving hill with nowhere to go. Took forever to do the repair. Then another of our guys lost a 40" bogger on the front of his truck. Took two winches, 3 snatchblocks, 2 chains, a strap, a comealong, two highlifts, and several people to get him farther up the hill into an "OK" spot, stabilize his truck on that hill, get it jacked up, and change that tire. Couldn't even get to the lug nuts cause the rim was packed up with clay. Took us ten hours to get our trucks another couple hundred yards to where the burning jeep was. Then, we could worry about getting him out of there. What a day.

Sorry for the hijack, but hey, we all love pics and a good story right? Besides, it's related..... For the lesson, here's why we should have fire extinguishers for when someone flops with a bad fuel line.
