You guys and yer 4 wheel coilovers and shrock armor :usuck:

Hahaha... man just kidding. That is one awesome 2nd gen. One of my favs I've seen yet. I can't even fathom the time and money you've put into that thing so far.

Keep it up man... Can't wait to see what's next for it.

Sorry Michael haven't been around in a while.

The Radflos are pretty good. I need to change the Springs from 750# to 600# because they are a little too stiff. Back when we were figuring things out with the weight of the Xs w/ armor the 750# looked to be the way to go. Nope

The TC UCAs are holding up 100% and would purchase them again.

Added a few new pics in the first post and will be installing my Blue Torch FabWorks Diff cover on Tuesday with Bobby (XVTer) and also installing his PRG Shackles.

Thats one sweet X.... Did you ever build your Gen 1 up at all?
I wanted to but wanted to wait till it was paid off before I really did anything extreme to it.
I only had the roof lights and BFG A/Ts

The day I was walking into the dealership to payoff my X the 05 had just come out.
While I was waiting for paperwork to be done the sales guy showed me a Yellow OR AT and tossed me the keys. Bad Idea
After a 30min test drive on some farm roads I walked into the show room and ordered an 05 OR Super Black MT. LOL

I was living ( On the road more than home ) in South Burlington up until Jan of 09. I moved to Newport, RI because our company opened a new branch here in RI and I had to pick a shop to work at. I had to choose between RI and NJ to live and I picked RI.
I don't know if I made the right decision or not.
I do head up to VT at least twice a month. I'll let you know the next time I head up north and see if you are in and around the area.

Adding to the truck today 2/10/10

Some of you know and some don't, so here is the deal.

I'm SASing the X.

With a LOT of help from John and a some killer help from Ryan we are looking to have this X ready for G.O.N.E. MOAB X.

The Parts list is crasy and here are a few things going under the X.
-New JK Rubicon D44 rear axle 4.10s w/ e-locker ( Craigslist find )
-JK Rubicon D44 front axle 4.10s w/ e-locker (35,000 miles wheeled 4 times)
-Reid High Steer Knuckles
-Synergy Inner Sleeves
-Synergy Outer Sleeve kit
-Synergy C Gussets
-Ruff Stuff Diff Covers
-Synergy Chromoly Tie Rod
-Bilstein 9100 Remote Res Front Coilovers
-Bilstein 7100 Remote Res Rears
-95 Pathy steering box
-Pitman Arm
-PSC Steering Cylinder ( 6.75" travel )
-Rock Assault reservoir filter kit
-Ruff Stuff SOA conversion
-Ballistic Fab Box-O-Goodies to connect everything together.
-37" Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs
-Mickey Thompson Classic Lock ( craigslist find )
-JK ABS Wiring
-JK Locker Wiring

Still needed -
Tom Wood's Drive shafts
Hard lines for Brakes
SS Braided Brake lines
1 Ton Rod Ends for drag link

The Project started yesterday with me tearing apart everything Shrock built. Also got the drive shafts off, anything that was attached to the rear axle came off and the B/L tid bits.

5/4/11
We were able to install the Modified T-Case cross member this morning which needed a little tweak yesterday because of the differences in the 2 Xs.

I was also able to finish cleaning up the frame after taking the Plasma to the coil buckets. I then turned back to the plasma cutter and got after the cross member under the oil pan.
As I was doing this John was able to finish off the battery box for the rear of his RubiX.

Just after lunch we headed into town to pick up my braided brake lines and a few fittings for the Pathy steering box. Then headed to Ryan's so we could take a stroll at the U-Pull salvage yard in Colfax.

I was able to tear into the JK locker/ ABS wiring harness tonight.

Top right is the wiring I do NOT need
Bottom right is what I'm keeping ( ABS and Locker connections )
Oh, and those are my rear shock mounts on the left.

Day 4
So today I was on my own again with guidance from John as to what I could hammer out.

First thing on the agenda was a Sales guy from Work asking me tech Q's on my vacation.

Off to the SAS Build

1st real thing was extending and converting all the ABS wires on the X to JK ABS.
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z228/XterraVT/SAS%20Build%20Album/SAS0003_2.jpg

Next up was taking the Plasma ( Love this thing ) and cut out the brackets to support the link cross member.
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z228/XterraVT/SAS%20Build%20Album/SAS0006_2.jpg

Off to cut out the Shock strengthening brackets ( Love the Plasma Cutter )
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z228/XterraVT/SAS%20Build%20Album/SAS0007_2.jpg

Finished the last bit of grinding to the frame ( the last bit of the coil bucket )

XterraVT
05-06-2011, 02:55 PM
I don't know if you guys know this or not.
John ( Creek ) was the guy that did most of the leg work and built his rig over the winter. She is looking Flipp'n Sweet I can tell you.
So as the winter was going on I started buying all my parts and shipping them to John's so I can build my Rig right now.

The Axles are the hardest things to find and find at a good price. It took me a month for the rear and about 3 months for the front.
Ryan ( another guy with his hands deep into this build ) is installing the G2 5.13 gears in the front axle and hope to have her up here tonight. The rear will probably be re-geared and up maybe Tuesday.

Here is a picture of John's Rig and what mine will look like in another week and a half.

The picture thing gets a little tough. Holding a 5D in one hand and cutting the drag link in another. I don't recommend it but it needs to be done.

I wish there was a Doc Crew working with us. It would allow me to go to bed at a decent hr instead of 1-2am every night. Last night we finished up about 11pm and then had a couple adult bevs and downloaded the pics to my comp. Then went and tossed all the pics I didn't like and picked the ones for the Web. Re-sized the good ones and loaded them up the the web. Head to the sites I frequent and write a little ditty about the days adventures.
By the time that is all said and done it's 1-2am and head to bed to do it again at 8am.

See you guys tonight

It is officially the 2 week mark for my build and the X is on the home stretch. A couple things got in our way during the 2 weeks.
- Mother Nature playing games and dumping 7+" of snow on us.
- Mother Nature giving us another 3" dusting a few days later
- Because of Mother Nature playing weather games I got sick for the past 2 days.
- It may not be all her fault as my eating, Drinking and sleeping habits have been all screwed up as well.
- 13hr days for 2 weeks is a bit much for the body to take if you're not taking care of yourself.

So Mother Nature tossed another wrench into the works.
Rain, Hail, Fog, Rain, Heavy Rain, Hail, Snow, Hail and now Sticking Snow!
I think she needs to lay off the Sauce so we can have our good weather back.

Sooo I was able to get a few things done today.
- Adjust Tie Rod
- Adjust Drag Link
- Adjust Track Bar
- Connected all steering lines
- Make new Manual trans hard line
- Lower shackles a notch to loose some of the rack.

- Install Tom Wood's Drive Shaft?
So this last step decided it wanted to beat me up a little.
1st attempt - Yoke slides in the new F1 flange TW made is huge and hits the bottom of the X. What the Heck!
2nd attempt - Yoke slides in and flange sneaks by floor and DING! What the heck is hitting now?
3rd attempt - Same as 2nd attempt. Ding!!!
I look inside the yoke and the case and there is nothing preventing this from going in. .
Now if you've never taken the drive shafts out of the X before Let me tell you that they are not light. Now add the weather report I gave you a few minutes ago and you'll see how things were going on this install.
So I decide to clean the garage

Creek gets home and says there are notches that I need to line up in order to get the yoke in.
Look around and there are no notches to speak of. So we try it again and Ding! F This
Come to find out the F1 flange TW made is getting caught up on the floor again.
Order up 1 BFH and 5 min later Yoke slides in No ProblemO!!!

Now I go to the other end and get ready to strap the u-joints in the axle and...

Creek - " Make sure the u-joints slide in between the 2 tabs on the axle before you tighten them down."
Dave - " These are not going to fit in between these 2 tabs"
Creek - " They have to or you will be breaking shit"
Dave - " There is now way these are fitting in between Dude"
Creek - "Let me see this. Yup, No way those are fitting in between the notches... Where your paperwork?
Dave - " Some where over there."

Turns out TW made the my DS with 1330 u-joints instead of 1310s. Hell!
We'll come to find out that TW has pulled these kinds of shenanigans before on a few other people. I'll find out what their plan is being that I'm 3 days from leaving to Gone.

Not all is lost as Napa Know How to the rescue!
They make a 1330 / 1310 u-joint that I can run. But of course we want to see what TW has to offer in the AM.

PBR Time and Thank god we are out of Jameson!

I have a older Canon 5D and a 30D. The 5D is what I've been using for most of the pics with a 16-35mm L lens.

That is definitely the sickest 2nd generation X i have seen. Black to the core. That is where I want my 1st gen to be some day. I would drool if I saw that on the road!

You would do more than that! I've run the trails with that beast. He makes everything look easy.

Sorry for the delay guys and gals

Photobucket is messed up and I've been wheeling in Moab with the X.

I can say that she is holding up VERY well on Behind the Rocks trail. I'll have vids and pics soon.

You have the most awesome X I have ever seen, I'm glad to have my first post ever to be on this thread and posting on this thread on my 20th birthday... Its amazing and everything I want my 2008 Xterra to be. Congrats on the magazine time. I don't know if you mentioned it, but have you totaled up in the costs of everything?

Haha. Dave, the minute you come to that total, I'll have a 12 pack ready to help you forget!

Hey man don't remember if I asked or not but how does it ride on the street now, like around town and on the highway?

It's really cool seeing more magazine coverage of the X. From Guys getting readers rides in the past to the 1st Gen SAS build. Now we have NXM coverage, a 1st Gen SAS in the Ultimate Adventure and my rig as Readers Rides Hot Shot. The Mags are starting to see that our trucks are not to be passed by and can and will keep up with the "Big Boys".

Thanks BadAssX. I don't think I'll be totaling up the cost of my X anytime soon. LOL
I might be able to get a rough total on my SAS build in a few days but I'll make sure Curt is next to me with the Beer before I hit the total button. Happy belated B-Day by the way

As for the Marine Amp - I was in an audio shop looking for Polk speakers and just happened to get a good deal on that Amp. No other reason

Drive ability - She drives very well actually. The first real drive was Evergreen, CO to Moab, UT after the build. It was all highway miles and Creek and I were hitting 65 - 75 without issue and could let got of the wheel and they would both track straight. Roll 4 month ahead and she is still doing well on the highway.
Driving around town is also pretty good. I did need to get used to the body roll as it's more pronounced now SAS'd than IFS w/ 2" BL. Quick maneuvers are a no no, but I have always kept my distance when driving in traffic before the SAS.
