The wife gave me the ok to start gathering parts to tear into my x once again bc shes content with her jeep at the moment, so I have been thinking and have gotten myself into a bit of confusion.

First thing what I know I want is a D44 front drivers drop high pinion 5:38 gears and 37" military take offs to run on the street and offroad until I can afford some good offroad rubber. For the rear a simple spoa should suffice until maybe a 63" leaf swap. Driveshafts arent and issue I know a guy who works at fast shafts and will cut me a good deal on shortening the rear shaft and Ill prolly just run a square tube shaft up front (no high speeed 4wd though).

Heres my problem the 37s use 16.5 rims and well 5 lug wheels arent cheap as a 16.5.. to add to this I already have a Dana 60 rear from my last SAS project (Ranger) which is a full float 8 lug. Also Im not sure if I want to use leaf springs or ext. radius arms and coils sooo would it be smarter to go d44hd with leaf springs and d60 rear orrr would d44 and 9" be the better way to go on ext radius arms?

Also I havent seen many leaf sprung X's what springs are they using? Im a beliver in leaves my Ranger was on Leaves all the way around too and it flexxed awesome.

This is making my head and wallet hurt before I ever turn a wrench or fire up the welder....

check out pirate4x4.com in the nissan section. Look up penski's first build. I think he used taco lift springs from allpro up front. He's currently switching to coilovers front and rear, both with 3 links.

I like your thoughts. Leaves are usually 63" and Taco leaves, and also just a frankenstein packs. I would stay away from the military wheels. I know, I know. It is a KILLER deal. They always are. But there are often brake clearance issues (like my 60 front) with the BS on those wheels. The D-60 rear is a good option for you I think. You are kinda suffering wheel options right now with an 8 and a 5 or 6 bolt front. I would either say go with a 60 front or a 9" or 44 rear. to get your bolt pattern situation where you want it. You can change bolt patterns as you know but for a price. I think the 5:38 option is a great choice for you should you pick 37" tires.
