: Light Bar?

I'm looking for a light bar for my Xterra.

I would like something that could be easily installed. Are there pre-made kits for them?

I'm not much with electrical in cars though so I may want to take it somewhere. Just curious what options are out there.

Thanks for the link!

I would go for round lights myself.

However - is there any way to wire them different? I'll have to check things out and see if I can find something also.

You can make your own light bar pretty easy(and cheap). I paid a total of about $20, but I didn't have to buy primer. You can build one for about $20-$30 easy. Angle steel from Home Depot, sharpie, saw-zaw(worked great, but you could use other saws), drill, primer and paint. thats all you need.

I bought Hellas so that ended up costing me another $160ish, but you don't have to buy expensive lights. Lots of folks(including myself for a bit) run cheap lights from Wal-Mart or any auto parts chain. Others(James.....) run lights that are expensive as balls(literally, I think you could buy new testicles for the price of those lights, hahaha)

It all depends on your price range when it comes to the lights them selves.

As far as having someone do it at a shop. You have to find a specialty shop I think. Someone that does mods, not just auto work. Depending on where you live you could always try to set-up a mod day.

Something to think about.............

sorry:talk2much:

Check around places that do trucking accessories. By trucking I mean the big rigs, diesels, 18-wheelers... whatever your term may be. They usually have experienced electrical guys who will install lights for an hourly rate which isn't too expensive.

Yeah I'm in Colorado so maybe there will be a meet up or something here.

I'm not sure what all mods I'll do yet - I like the light bar because I do photography and often want to go on some back road at odd hours of the morning and it would help for visibility - to see wildlife on the sides better, etc. And I think they would just plain look cool too ;)

I'm sure I could mount them all myself - it's just the electrical - I'm not sure how I would plug them in and get a switch in, etc. I want something real clean looking so the one in that other thread with the wire looks like it runs into the door to get into the A column inside or something - would prefer something cleaner but I don't know how that would be doable with the truck.

I don't want to spend too terrible much. If the walmart deals give enough light and work and look decent - well I might go that route - upgrade to something better later.

I have got to get a remote start and a new stereo put in first - priorities :P I can't live with something that won't play my MP3's.

the reason my wires run along the door is cause i'm not drilling holes in the roof of my X so the only other rout is the way i did it..... but that's my opinion... i haven't had any problems with the El-cheapo lights i put up they still shine bright to this day, i am going to pick up 2 more sets to mount on the pathy.... at 19.98 a set you cant beat that... LOL

I actually did the same thing as Jason because when you drill through the roof the stuff that you fill the hole with expands and contracts with the weather and there is a good possibility of a leak in the roof and no one wants that. But if you are good with your maintenance and upkeeps then you should be fine
