My new AC shackles should be here Wednesday! So, I was looking under the X this weekend and started to examine the front end for my torsion bar crank. I noticed that the bumpstops are currently only a fingerwidth away from the top of my UCA. This is with the tires sitting on the ground. I thought I had read where after cranking up the torsion bars that the bumpstop should be a fingerwidth away from the UCA. I did order shorter bumpstops.

Does this sound right?

I would cancel that order if I were you.

Are you serious? Unless i am a complete moron and looking at the wrong thing. This bumpstop is towards the front of the LCA.

really?
what about the distance from the lower bumpstop?
you should take pix asap so we can better judge, cuz you might have big fingers or something

A pic is truly worth a thousand words at this point.

Ok, as soon as I get home I will take a picture. I may be looking at this completely wrong. I hope!

I have a feeling you might be looking at the wrong bumpstop. I did the same thing too when I was getting ready to do my PML. It kinda freaked me out at first as well.

These guys will get you straightened out so no worries. Get a few pics and they'll come up with a game plan.

Th is is obviously not my X, but this is the best I can do at work. The arrow points to what i am seeing as the bumpstop on mine.

Does this help? Between this and my upper control arm is about a 1/2 inch.

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!

I thought that might have been the one you were looking at but I'd rather the more experienced guys step in and help. I looked at the same one too. Then I started thinking something couldn't be right and by process of elimination figured out the right one.

So good deal... Wednesday we get pics of your lifted X right? hahaha

I did the same thing when I first started lifting, haha.

Well if AC gets the parts to my house I might have it done by end of week. I think its a good reason to take a day off! And, I have to convince the wife unit to let me do it myself vs. taking it somewhere. I guess she thinks I am going to kill myself or something. I got quoted 180 to have it done. Plus alignment.

So, I figure i can take the day off, get it done and she will never know the difference.

If I can get it done by myself in 8 hours!

Thanks again guys.

OH man you will have it done in less than 2 hours. It's an easy mod to take on yourself. With that extra time you might even try and do the alignment yourself. I've been reading where a few people who did their PML's are having trouble with shops getting the alignment right.

Ricer-X

my alignment issue was due to the ball joint spacers
sans bj spacers, the truck will still align to factory spec
with bj spacers, it no longers aligns to factory spec, essentially you have to get a "custom" aligment, fortunatley, i know several peeps(like actually know them socially) around htown that own shops that i can trust to do exactly what i ask

if you have a shop do the lift they proab. wont do it right... so i would say do it your self... there is plenty of info on here that can walk you through it....

as to the alignment it canot be done with a computer if you get the BJ spacers.....

I just looked and it appears I have about an inch maybe a little more between my bumpstop and my UCA.

Thanks for all your help guys and I may hit you up if I need to.

If you really don't wanna do it by yourself we can meet up and have a mod day. I have to install my UCA and AAL. Truth be told though, you can have yours lifted in two hours including sitting around and admiring your work.

That's a good offer Noish is throwing out there OU. That would be a great opportunity to tinker with your rigs and learn. You will learn so much about your X by doing as much work as possible yourself.

Thanks for the offer Noish. I may hit you up on that. I thought i was supposed to get the shackles today, but I am apparently date challenged....they will be here tomorrow.
