: Fuel Injector Cleaners?
OUMOOSE 03-10-2008, 07:41 AM Are these a scam? I was thinking of running a bottle through the tank, but wasn't sure if anyone had any knowledge on the validity of them. I have 63000 miles on my 02 X. If you have used some, what kind have you used?
Thanks.

Drake 03-10-2008, 10:35 AM X2 on the seafoam.
You can pick it up at any auto parts store in the same area with all of your injector cleaners, fuel additives etc.
Oh and there's a little bottle of stuff to clean your MAF sensor in that same area. I recommend snatching up one of those too.
OUMOOSE 03-10-2008, 10:52 AM On the reviews I see for Seafoam it says to be a bottle in the tank, or half bottle. And, put one in a vacuum line or something? Is this true?
json3904 03-10-2008, 03:33 PM there is a thread on here that tells you how to use it..i put half in the vacume line and the other half in the tank......
Cyclemut 03-13-2008, 01:59 PM I like BG44K myself. I've always had good luck with the stuff. Personal choice on that. Techron, BG and SeaFoam are all pretty good.
OUMOOSE 03-13-2008, 02:19 PM I have read that most people do it before changing sparkplugs. Is it best to change your plugs afterwards? Or, is this just a timing thing for people?
hendrix89 03-14-2008, 06:45 AM nooo...it does not hurt your spark plugs. But be ready for some smoke out of your tail pipe.
Cyclemut 03-14-2008, 07:54 AM In fact, it'll help clean the plugs out as well. But if you're do for plugs, change them afterwards. It's more of a timing thing.

X2 here. I have always thrown a can of one of those in the fuel tank every oil change.
I couldn't find BG44K locally, but I 'Seafoamed' my 01 X this weekend.
1/3 sucked up through the brakeline booster
1/3 in the oil
1/3 in the tank
At 72,000 Km that was a lot of white smoke! I cleaned the MAF the same day and ran out the engine for about 10km at around 3000 rpm. I also found the speed regulator at around 160kph! Fortunately the cops didn't find me at that speed. Between the Seafoaming and MAF cleaning I noticed a difference and saw about .5 LHK in better mileage using the Scanguage over my test distance and about 1 LHK for the total drive.
The following day I changed the oil and filter (Mobil 1) as I'd read that Seafoaming the oil releases a lot of carbon into the oil. I did check the dipstick first thing in the morning and it was looking pretty black. Post oil change it's right as rain. My Volant filter also got cleaned and re-oiled.
For the Seafoam users, how often do you put a bottle in the tank? Just at oil changes or more frequently? What about the engine treatment?
I'd bought the Lucas oil additive and was going to put it in today but returned it. After much reading I'm leaning on the 'no' side of the oil additive camp as far as stabilizers go. Mobil 1 or Royal Purple should have everything we need.
json3904 04-27-2008, 08:17 PM i do the seafoam at every oil change...
jman2000 04-27-2008, 10:20 PM know idea what mines called but it worked good
cbzdel 04-27-2008, 10:27 PM what MAF cleaner ate you guys using??
Drake 04-28-2008, 08:41 AM I don't remember what the brand is but it plainly says MAF cleaner on the can and I picked it up at Advanced Auto. Think it was only around $5 or so.
AXION 04-28-2008, 09:01 AM I'm not sure whare to get this over here in western Oregon... Any one local know?..
Drake 04-28-2008, 09:53 AM Any of the chain autoparts stores should carry it. O'Reilly, AutoZone, etc. Whatever is out there. It's not a special item and is kept in the same area as the seafoam, carb cleaner and stuff like that. Wal-Mart probably even has it.
