Heh, nice pics. How the hell did you manage to flip the thing into that hole?

(Oh and not to sound like a suspicious, conspiracy-theory type, you guys should think a bit before posting shots of your rides with your plate numbers visible. You never know what kind of information people could pull up just by knowing your license plate number. Open then up in MSpaint or something and blur out your digits.)

Ricer-X
03-07-2008, 02:17 PM
its not something i ever think to do until i see a pic of another ride with it blurred, and by that point ive got the pic linked to 5 diff car forums

its not something i ever think to do until i see a pic of another ride with it blurred, and by that point ive got the pic linked to 5 diff car forums

LOL! So, anyway, how did you manage to flip your X into that small hole?

Ricer-X
03-07-2008, 03:06 PM
it actually wasnt very small
it was 11' deep where my truck was
area was roughly 20'x30'
the grass created an illusion that kept my mom and her boyfriend from even finding it the next morning(its was along a bayou) and the wrecker driver almost drove into the hole
the actual reason i flipped it into the hole??
dont drink and wheel, dont wheel at nite and alone where you;ve never wheeled, dont wheel alone ever

Drake
03-07-2008, 04:32 PM
Modding and drinking don't mix too well. hahahaha

One day I took my wheels off to do a thorough cleaning of the undercarriage and get all the mud and crap out of the mechanicals. Well obviously after 4 hours of cleaning I was handily under the influence. 2 weeks later on my way to a wheeling trip I felt a bad wobble and thought I had blown a tire. Nope... I HAD FORGOTTEN TO TIGHTEN MY FRIGGIN' LUG NUTS!!!

So yeah I save da beers until after I'm done now.

json3904
03-22-2008, 04:00 PM
james get it right they are TSL LTB'S!!!!!!!!! LOL

punkrockdrummerx
03-22-2008, 08:01 PM
How do those LTB's wear anyways?? Personally they are not wide enough for my liking. I am thinking about going with the Trxus MT's in a 34 x 12.50 x 15.

Ricer-X
03-22-2008, 08:09 PM
the rubber is soft
they wont last long with DD
the New LTBs i just put on my toyota are 33X13.5
ill be testin those next weekend

punkrockdrummerx
03-22-2008, 08:16 PM
Bias plys are usually soft, but thats what I am looking for in a tire. I would really love the TSL SX, but its a bit too big of a tire for me to fit.

json3904
03-22-2008, 08:41 PM
well he never really drove them on the road so there not worn at all....... his new tires are pretty wide......

Ricer-X
03-23-2008, 03:59 PM
ok, the wife and i instaled the B&M tranny cooler in less than an hour

i also changed my diff fluid and tranny fluid
and i gotta say, im surprised at the effet on my mpg
i got no less than 19mpg at 65mph with cruise control set on level ground
as my wife is my witness, the scanguage never dropped below 19mpg until i hit uphill
incredible, im very excited about this, gonna install one on the wife's rolla

sorry, didnt bring ther cam, will take pics of the outcome laters

json3904
03-23-2008, 07:47 PM
i think i just might have to put one on my X......

Ricer-X
03-23-2008, 07:51 PM
there is significant improvement in mpg, it feels like i lose far less power between the engine and wheels, id bet i make more wheel power than before
since i dont have a heavy foot this thing will pay for itself in no time

json3904
03-23-2008, 07:54 PM
thats the thing i HAVE A HEAVY FOOT.....

Ricer-X

ok, so after my efficiency craze;
auto tranny cooler
electric fan conversion
intake mod
265/75/16 tires(from 265/70)

im not sure exactly what my mpg is
but i filled up yesterday and have since traveled 29.1 miles and my fuel gauge is still ABOVE the full mark
i spent 20min in stop-and-barely-go-traffic for no less than 1.5 miles on the way home, electric fan going the whole time, felt no loss of power, nothing
im way impressed, once i fill up again and actually calculate it and give yall some numbers
depending on how excited the numbers get me ill put a catback exhaust on it

so far im very impressed with my increase in mpg

json3904
06-03-2008, 07:57 PM
dustin how is the e-fan working for ya???? also what did the company say about returning the f%^&ed up one????

need new front pass wheel bearing(will arrive tomorrow)

fuel is spraying at an alarming rate from the area of the fuel filter, dont know exactly where yet, i need goggles before i get uder there with the line primed

and the AC is out, gotta recharge it, find the leak, and fix it, then recharge it again

the X has been parked for over 2 weeks now, hasnt driven yet
gettin to work on it saturday

cbzdel
07-23-2008, 11:13 AM

Ricer-X
08-11-2008, 11:47 AM
Good stuff D! You sure you are getting power to the headlight?

NOPE, havent even checked man, i just know when i took the trash to the dumpster(on the roof) i had a headlight out, im gonna pull it and see if the low beam filament is bad, if so ill just go get my spare piaa bulb from my shop(aunts garage)

and if the filaments are good well then ill probably put it off for a week or so bc i DESPISE electrical work, i hate wires, and all that stuff

json3904
08-11-2008, 09:32 PM
dustin when i go over there on friday i will check and see if you have power.... hey are we taking your X or the tc sat?????

Ricer-X
08-12-2008, 07:51 AM
probably the xterra homie, the back seat in the tC aint that big, lol, and i am NOT riding back there and im certain you and the noobster dont wanna ride back there either
so, we shall swang the X, i just gotta pop over to nan's and get my spare headlight bulb

Ricer-X
08-18-2008, 09:43 AM
so the AC is still out, and the bearing is starting to chatter again, loosing my patience here, does it make sense that a replace the outer bearing, repack the shit, reassemble it, and it be totally silent for almost 2 weeks... then start chattering the same way all over again, makes me think its not the wheel bearing... bc, if the wheel bearing was bad, new grease wouldnt mask it, esp for just under 2 weeks

and the the attempt to fix the ac leak with jb weld was fail, json was there holdign the flashlight to witness, still leaks, so im just gonna cake/layer the jbweld on it til it stops leaking
json has pix of this fiasco

aaannnnd just cleaned my MAF

$210
cant wait

What is the purpose of purchasing a higher output alternator for your situation?

json3904
08-19-2008, 01:37 AM
cause he is running the zirgo 3000cfm fan... it puls alot of power to run....

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h255/jsongrl/clubX%20stuff/0815082217.jpg
hey dustin by looking at some of these pics i think you can remove the bolt and the hose that is busted will slide out... i think you still might be able to do it unless you added the rest of that jb weld to it... then you are screwed.. LOL

Ricer-X
08-20-2008, 07:16 AM

What kind of mileage are you getting now after the oil cooler and the e-fan?

Ricer-X
08-24-2008, 11:01 AM
on flat ground, with the cruise set at 65 i get between 19-21mpg depending on the wind, lol
youd be surprised how a slightly larger diameter tire affects the engine's ability to maintain hwy speed

Ricer-X
09-22-2008, 12:27 PM
well, the X needs a new battery, i knew it was coming.. even a yellow top optima wont last forever

undecided on if i should get another yellow top or get a red top

punkrockdrummerx
09-22-2008, 12:52 PM
I would suggest to stay away from optima. Where I work, we see them come back all the time because of being bad. I personally run excide orbital batteries in mine and love them.

Ricer-X
09-22-2008, 12:57 PM
christ man those are expensive as hell
my optima lasted me 4 years without a hitch, im gonna stick with the optima

json3904
09-22-2008, 08:20 PM
how much are the orbital's????

TN4x4Xterra
09-22-2008, 09:22 PM
I had a red top....lasted a year before it went dead...completely dead...even tried jumpstarting it and it just wouldn't start so went back to regular car battery (i was in college at that time) but deciding on a blue top optima or excide orbital

Ricer-X
01-16-2009, 07:37 AM
INSTALLED AN INCAR ANTENNA from sourcingmap.com

less than $10 a pop, got one for the runner and one for the xterra, seems to work great so far, havent installed int he runner,
nither truck has had an antenna for over a year

TremorX
01-16-2009, 12:08 PM
I swear by the Optima.. about 6 months ago the alternator died on my Cruiser and I had to drive on battery 30 miles home at night.. it made it into my driveway before it died. Charged it back up, and it's been fine ever since.

Ricer-X
01-16-2009, 01:25 PM
yea, i effed mine up not thinkin, couldnt justify buying another yellow top though at the time, $ was and still is a lil tight

the irony of that is that over the next 4 or 5 months im SASing my 4runner, lol

Woo-hoo! Lets hear it for unemployment!

Ehh, not really. But, hey last time I was unemployed I painted the valve cover, calipers, wheels and other stuff on my SE-R. Nothing like being within walking distance of a speed shop that sells VHT... The people in my condo must of loved me.

timing belt, alternator, 2 starters, fabbed new exhaust, installed 3 radios, custom mounted 2 speakers, removed my efan and went back to belt driven, fixed my ac, replaced 2 tie rods, 2 upper ball joints, brake booster, master cylinder, 1 wheel cylinder, outer rear wheel bearings

god ive lost track, all this between my 2 trucks

do tell.....why did you remove the e-fan?

well, i had 2 of em fail on me, the first one was while i was towing my trail rig hours away from home in 100* weather

both of them got too hot and melted inside grounding themselves out, too much of a headache, so i bought a direct drive flex fan and ditched the clutch, moves so much more air, the loos in performance wasnt noticeable to me

today

spark plug came loose, threads are fine, never seen that happen before, tightened it back down.

changing my starter, been having probs over the past few months, left me stuck the other day, till i got a tad upset and when underneath to beat on the starter, been starting fine ever since though its turning over slower
factory starter has the signal wire soldered to it, cant see the plug further up the line(like the new one has), hope its there, really dont want to splice the wire

also cranking my tbars back up, after 4 years with the sway away tbars the front end has sagged about 3/4". took a long time for them to settle, sorry i still havent gotten a vid of the new muffler, perhaps if i still have patience when im done ill take one

its hot as pig shit out here, but i recently purchased a shop air blower, as long as i move it every time i do it pretty nice, especially since with he truck on 4 of those plastic ramps i can sit up under it

edit: ive also figured out whats making that damn ticking noise that been driving me up the walls for the past year, its my wheel spacer, gonna try to figure out why today

Hey Ricer I know me and you are pretty much the only ones that tow near or over our limit but I found a set of overloads for the X that are better than my cheapos however. I had these on a 97 F150 and they worked amazing you cant notice them empty and they rock your socks loaded with no air needed or other BS. The only ad thing I remember as when its cold (below 0) there were hard as a rock for a few miles but you shouldnt have that problem lol.

well, its finally time for a BL and 33x12.50s

granted i dont wheel this thing anymore, i dont care, i want a bigger DD
i wont have to worry about being a poser, since i wheel the hell out of my 4runner, and still beat up the x every now and then

anyway, im currently running 265/75/16 which calcs to 31.6x10.4
i do tow the runner around on a 16' tandem axle trailer, im worried about the 1.5" increase in diameter affecting my towing ability, now id be happy as a clam with less mpg and a lil more sluggish acceleration, but i dont want to be stuggling up the mild hills on the way to the park, nor do i want to worry about my brakes over heating since that would be affected also

any ideas on how drastically it will change things?

i know what th 4runner is like after having gone from the stock 28" to 33" and not really having ow range gears anymore, my 4lo is what my 4hi used to be, but that is a much more drastic change so i think ill be alright

the heart of my concern is whether ill have to get new gears for the X

TimRich
07-06-2010, 07:35 PM
Woo Hoo!!! 33's FTW!!! I don't think you'll see a huge diffrence in towing abilities with the BL and 33's. I'm no expert but I know there are plenty of people here that have 33's and tow some hevier loads. Good luck and can't wait to see it!

greentennx
07-06-2010, 07:42 PM
What gear's are in your X now? I have the 4.6 gears in mine with the 33's. I haven't really noticed any difference in mine, but I do not tow either. You know to be truthful I haven't even noticed a real change in my mpg either.

Ricer-X
08-24-2010, 11:34 AM
man its hot out there

so far breaking the body bolts loose has been a cake walk, sprayed liquid wrench pen. oil 10 min before i started, bracing a 14mm wrench against the frame and with my 1/2-3/8 reducer on a 2' breaker bar, they are coming loose like butter, but, the truck as messy as hell, gotta clean it out so i can get to the rest of the bolts, gotta take my toolbox out of the trunk also. currently indoors cooling off and rehydrating

still gotta make a slotted block of wood to jack up the body with.

my bro in law should be here around 330pm, other than that im all by myself, lol, i can never get anyone over here to mod with me anymore, i do it all on my own, oh well, its made a better mechanic out of me, im not scared to do anything without help, lol

hell i only skimmed the how to a week ago

Drake
08-24-2010, 11:56 AM
Stay hydrated bro. I wouldn't worry about a slotted block. A 2x4 block will work fine. The weight of the body will crease the block and hold it still. I didn't think about the slot myself when I did mine but after the first lift, the pinch seam took care of the slot for me. :)

TimRich
08-24-2010, 12:10 PM
Good luck! I used a 4x4 and cut a slot in it the day before I started the BL. Looking forward to the pics! Don't forget to disconnect the clip for the heater core hoses and make sure to either replace or adjust your top radiator hose.

If you didn't run it in too far, you should be able to clean the threads with a tap&die set and keep it moving. If not, and the threads are toast, try a helicoil insert. I'm not sure the sizes that are available, but they have saved many a mechanic over the years who cross thread stuff. Its not the end of the world, just figure out the damage, and what it will take to fix it.

Drake

seems my truck is having some issues, lol

i have a terrible creaking from the front right that i cant seem to pinpoint, its rather inconsistent, i seems like body creaking since i can hear it so well inside with the windows up

and i have a clunking with noticeable wheel movement in reverse when braking withthe wheels turned right, something is loose, i think its a tie rod, hopefully not a bearing

cuong nguyen
09-28-2010, 11:22 AM
For the creaking, try bouncing up and down side to side on the body. My body mounts need to be welded together after the accident. maybe worn sway bar bushings?

Ricer-X
09-28-2010, 11:29 AM
not the bushings, changed them about week ago, it was creaking before then, its just getting worse.

swaybar is touching the skid plate though, may be that

cuong nguyen
09-28-2010, 11:37 AM

i cant remember, lol i did the lift so damn long ago

RATTFINK
10-02-2010, 12:44 PM
I believe they are aftermarket bolts for the lift.

cuong nguyen
10-02-2010, 12:52 PM
You can get some new bolts from the hardware store if they carry it.

I know the ones on mine are like 14mmx1.5x50mm. stock. so you can get away with 55mm if you need some longer ones and 60mm will be pushing it.

I don't recall the aftermarket UCAs ever coming with camber bolt.

Ricer-X
10-02-2010, 12:54 PM
after thinkin about it for a while, i cant imagine why they would be different, the flanges on the outside of the knuckles dont change thus the inner diameter of the knuckles cant change, they have to be the same

cuong nguyen
10-02-2010, 12:57 PM
yep the same.

RacerXXL
10-02-2010, 10:30 PM
The AC UCA's use the stock camber bolts but I don't know how you would get them at a hardware store as they have a slot machined into them that the camber washers lock into.

I would be surprised if they do. You can have them overnight it and you can have them Tuesday. If they try to charge you too much in the way of shipping, ask if they have any big orders that you could piggyback on. I used to do that for some of my customers when I was in a parts department. Our flat overnight rate was $15.00 per order. If I liked you, I would just add your small parts in with something large and it would all work out in the end.
