I just purchased a new xterra, for my wife, and I'm looking for a snowboard rack to fit it, any suggestions? or is it best just buying one from the dealer.

I think that if you buy from the stealership, then you are going to be buying a Yakima, or a Thule product. With that said, look for a sale, or do a google product search and sort by price. Performance Bike will match internet prices. They might be able to get a ski rack in too. :)

Other factors to consider...

I just bought my Xterra as well. WITHOUT a ski rack on top, I had 'maybe' 4 inches of clearance between the roof rack and my garage door. Add a ski rack, and that's WAY too close for comfort. So I JUST finished installing the Yakima King Pin 4 bike rack, with attachable hitch ski; ski/board rack mounts to the bike rack so the boards will be held vertical behind the X. So now I don't have to worry about the clearance into the garage (height wise), and I'm not trying to climb on top of the X to get stuff down from way up top! This weekend will be the first real experience with it.

On the flip side, a buddy of mine (with Jeep Wrangler) just got rear ended coming down from the mountains two weeks ago with his tire carrier board rack - destroyed his brand new board (this season). Trashed the board, his bike/ski rack, and dented his rear door...and his insurance says that the rack and board are NOT COVERED because they weren't in the vehicle. Sounds sketchy, but if that's true, it is another factor to consider (I considered it, and went that route anyway; it's the same method I've been using for YEARS now with my old Cherokee).
