I have a fuel pump issue with my 2000 X...I think... I have power going to the pump but I think it's dead. No sound when the key is on and no fuel pumping through the lines. Two questions. How do I discern whether it's the pump or relay. On Ebay, I can get a fuel pump only for $45. Do I need to be concerned about quality etc because all around my area and on line, they cost over $100 at least. Thanks!

under the pass rear seat there is a access panel take that off and pull the pump and see if it comes on then check the power to it... then you will have your answer to that...... as to the eBay item i don't know i have never bought something like that from there.....

I doubt that it's either. I've never actually seen a fuel pump go bad. But I have seen a ton of sending units with corrosion! Pull the seat as json3904 stated. Then pull the smaller of the two connectors and, with a mirror, look inside the connection point of the sending unit (where you just pulled the connector out of). I'd bet you'll find a ton of green stuff in there, and maybe even see a bit of heat distortion.

The fuel pump power plugs in directly below that connection point. Nissan uses that as the fluid seperation point for the pump and sending unit. If you've got power and ground (you'll need to do a key on/engine off immediately to tell, or have someone crank the engine over while checking for both) then it's probably the sending unit.

The computer will shut the pump off after (I believe) 5 seconds after the last crank time if the engine didn't start. So if you don't see what you're looking for power and ground wise, then try cranking it over again and check within the 5 second time period, or have someone crank it over.

I checked and I have 12V to the pump. I am having a time getting the connectors off...I don't want to break them. Any ideas? I sprayed with brake cleaner and still having problems. Maybe I don't understand the way to disconnect? Also, if I clean the connectors, will it work ?

I just took the connectors off of my flooded 2000, and yeah, it was a bear. Tons of grit in there, don't think the extra water did it any favors. I cleaned them the best I could, then doused them a good bit with silicone spray grease. Let that soak a bit, then jiggled and shook them around and yanked pretty good. I also was pushing down on the release with a screwdriver. Can't seem to push on them quite hard enough with my finger sometimes. But if you get it off, and all the pins look good like mine did, and you have power, then you gotta trace the problem a little further down the line. You can actually pull the top off the sender to check things inside the tank too.

The tsb is actually a recall. If the recall hasn't been performed on the vehicle, then Nissan will replace it. Call the dealer, give them your VIN and see if the recall has been done. If not, then the dealership may even pay the tow to get it to them!

I can't believe though that there's still X's out there that haven't had it done.

My 2000X fuel pump died as well when I was 40 miles out of town and I had it towed to a local station. This is when I found it was recalled. The station called my Dealer who would order and send the replacement kit but it did not include all of the parts the station would need to fix the problem and the additional parts (I think they were for mounting) were an extra $40. The station's local parts guy supplied an aftermarket kit with everything included for $45 + installation. I was able to open a claim with Nissan and they refunded the full price. I haven't had another issue in 2 years. I hope this helps.

Man, you guys are great...after the info on the recall, called the dealer and got the X to them. Indeed it was the sending unit and it was recalled and they repaired it at N/C. Fuel pump was OK, just the recalled sending unit. It runs back to it's glory and all is well. Thanks a million!!!
