I searched but didn't find what I was looking for. I have an 04 V6 and was wondering if it is worth the upgrade to a simple KandN air filter?

Any additional links are appericiated

Thanks

K&N Filters are worth the money. Just the money you save in replacing filters is worth it.

I've got one on my '04 as well and it is a nice improvement as well as giving it a little more throaty sound too.

The easiest mod to do with probably the best bang for the buck improvements as far as hp and mpg's (although minimal).

I'd skip'm. But I don't know what you mean by referring to a "simple" K&N. Is it still the oiled version? If not, nevermind as I'll discuss the oiled version...I've heard that if you don't clean and oil them regularly dirt can and will get through. So now you have oily dirt getting through your filter mucking up the MAP sensor and other components on the other side of the filter. Remember you have to clean and oil them regularly.

If that is the route you were looking, skip it. I'd go with an Amsoil EA air filter. Good for 100,000-miles or 4-years. No oiling. Only have to blow the dirt out of it every now and then. Much easier to take care of and just as cheap ($30-40 if I recall).

Not saying you are wrong on this topic because far be it from me to argue mechanical issues but I've run a K&N in every car I've owned for the past 12 years and I've never had an issue. And one of them was a "tweaked" civic I drove the piss out of for about 3 years and close to 100K.

This may just come down to a personal preference thing. And cleaning the MAF sensor takes about 2 seconds to do if you buy the cleaner. I did it on 4 cars Saturday in less than 10 minutes.

I see the point you are making though Nim.

Understood and it is nothing I've had personal experiance with. Just things I've heard and read about. I never bothered with KN's as I didn't care for the cleaning and oiling issue. Too lazy for that. But with the Amsoil filter it's just an easy shake or blow it out thing.

Sensors are easy to clean if you buy the right cleaner. Don't go spraying carb cleaner or other degreaser in there or you'll be looking to buy a new sensor. Need to find and use an electrical parts cleaner or cleaners listed specifically for the maf. ;)
