: Scan Gauge II Worth getting ???
KICKYERASS 02-27-2008, 06:27 PM Hello all, I have read a few posts about fuel, MPG, what can I get from one tank full of gas ? etc. I notice that someone started talking about the " Scan Gauge ". So I looked it up on the internet (of course) and for the price I thought it was something that could provide you with GOOD Information on the fly, plus helps a little with some of the codes that may pop up. Can anyone provide a little info on this item, Was it worth buying ? easy to use ? help you out a little with your X. looked cool in your ride ?
Thanks guys and gals for your help. Rob

Ricer-X 02-27-2008, 06:37 PM i love mine
its easy to use
KICKYERASS 02-27-2008, 08:51 PM Where did you place the display at in your X ?
Ricer-X 02-28-2008, 06:06 AM i have it on my steering column, it blocks my view of the odo there but i dont really care
unclehardrock 02-28-2008, 06:06 AM the scangauge is totally worth it. i use mine daily- and the gas mpg info/how many miles to empty feature is great for long drives, especially when i'm hauling my trailer. i've got a 2nd gen x, but i have mine mounted right below my cd player. there's an attachment below that shows it- sorry, i'm not up on photobucket yet so i can't imbed the pic in this post. one of these days i'll get around to that. anyhow, i'd say it's definitely worth it, and the best thing is it's not vehicle specific, so you can always move it to a new ride, not that you would ever want to get rid of your x

Ricer-X 02-28-2008, 06:19 AM yep, you can use it on any OBII vehicle, if a buddy has a CEL you can just walk over, plug it in, and read the code!
KICKYERASS 02-28-2008, 03:35 PM Very cool ! Thanks alot for your input, I may just be ordering mine this eve. Any more input would be great !!!!
KICKYERASS 03-02-2008, 02:01 PM I finally ordered it, should have next week. I'll post a pic of the placement. Thanks for your input...
dezurtrat 03-02-2008, 02:08 PM Yea, it's a good tool. I have the original one but the new one I think is better and a little smaller.
KICKYERASS 03-02-2008, 02:52 PM I belive you can get the upgrade for yours. I think its just a list of new codes you can put in manualy. Not sure. Check 'em out WWW.Scangauge.com

That would be great but I only have the OBDII connector coming out of the scangauge. I don't think there is a way unless of course I can send it back and have them upgrade it.
json3904 03-02-2008, 05:47 PM you have to send it to them and pay $25 for the upgrade...... i will be sending mine as soon as i get a chance...... but since i use mine as a spedo its going to be kinda hard... LOL
soccerbrace 05-01-2008, 11:59 AM So how much did everyone pay for theirs? I am seeing $380 all across the board....:(
richiebowen 05-01-2008, 08:10 PM Looks like they are 169.95 including shipping on the website
soccerbrace 05-02-2008, 08:50 AM Yeah, I saw that after I searched on Google product, but on Ebay, that was the price. Wack huh?
richiebowen 05-02-2008, 12:23 PM My best guess would be that they just lowered their price cause it was 200 and something just a little while ago
soccerbrace 05-02-2008, 12:32 PM Ahhhhhh
You know what I am thinking? Scangauge III
either that or the II has just lost it's introductory price
Few questions and I didn't want to totally jack the hyper miler thread.
Is the scangauge II still the best bang for the buck or is there a scangauge III coming soon?
Are there codes that the SGII cannot clear? I'm not saying you should clear it just could you if you wanted to?
Has anyone heard of installing a SGII voiding any warranties?
What do you mostly display on your SGII?
json3904 09-08-2008, 06:19 PM the sc wont void warranty, they just did a upgrade so the II is still the best.... and i display the rpm's mph mpg and voltage
carrottop432 03-11-2009, 03:04 PM I'm looking for a good way to monitor the boost level of my supercharged 2002. Will the scangaugeII show this for my ride? I read on the scangauge website that not all vehicles report MAP to the OBDII port. I'm assuming the MAP reading would give the level of boost/vacuum. If not, I guess I'll grab a dedicated boost gauge for my ride, but I like the compactness of the scangaugeII. Looks like it'd be a lot easier to mount, too. Thanks for any and all help!
Janster 03-12-2009, 06:07 AM The scangauge II with the Xgauge features is really cool. I have one on my toyota tacoma. The Add-a-gauge is neat, although not much available for Toyota as there is other manufacturers (I don't see Nissan in there either).
Here's a pdf of the gauges you can add to your scangauge II.
http://www.scangauge.com/support/pdfs/XGAUGE.pdf
You can also mix & match different information to give custom gauges. Like - I setup DTE (distance to empty) and APT (average MPG per tank).
Before I bought my scangauge, I really wanted transmission temps and/or oil temp/pressure info. They kept telling me 'We're working on it, and it should be out soon' - well, that never happened. That kinda irritated me. They got me on the hook and now it's like a dead horse. Apparently, Toyota won't allow them to access that info (or something to that affect).
The unit is really neat. There are sooo many different gauges you can setup. My gauges I have showing are DTE (distance to empty), APT (average MPG for the tank), RPM's, Coolant temp. You can switch around to different gauges very easily.
Not to mention, its a code reader. You can use it on most any vehicles to read engine codes.
TN4x4Xterra 04-01-2009, 05:28 PM I have it and i love it!
carrottop432 08-08-2009, 08:49 PM Well, to dig up an old thread... I bought a Scangauge II a few days ago off of e-bay for $100 + $8 shipping! Used, but like new. Didn't even have the velcro peeled off! Even included the original invoice from when the guy bought it new! I'm pretty happy with it overall, but I am disappointed in some ways. My main goal was to use it to read the MAP sensor and transmission fluid temp, but the MAP shows nothing and I can't find an Xgauge code for the tranny temp. I searched like crazy for xgauge codes, but there just aren't any that work for the xterra. This is the only thread on the forum I could find with anything about xgauge. Has anyone else found any codes that work? BTW... I already checked the ones on scangauge's website, but I don't think many of them work for the xterra other than the horsepower one, which is obviously a little off. I don't think my X has 290HP, although I'm sure it uses enough gas for a 290HP engine!
Silver Dude 08-08-2009, 09:36 PM Yeah X-gauge only works if the programing is already in the computer I guess. MAF I get the temp of the incoming air not the flow rate. I was little bummed on that as well, I really wanted to compare intake setups.
carrottop432 08-08-2009, 09:41 PM I was kinda hoping there was a tranny temp sensor... oh well. Still bummed about the lack of MAP data. I KNOW there's a MAP sensor. For the MAF, there should be a way to get the flow data, but it would require knowing the xgauge data for it as well. Anyone on here that speaks hexadecimal fluently and has some spare time care to figure out all the xgauge data for the 1st gen xterras?

I know how to view the distance to empty and average mpg for the tank, but how do you get them to be set as guages? I can not figure that one out.

If you have the newer version (that supports xgauge) it tells how to do it on page 28 of the manual. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty easy (emphasis on "looks"). If you don't have or can't find your manual, you can view it on the scangauge website (http://www.scangauge.com).
johngraves2 08-08-2009, 10:11 PM hahaha, wow. I cant tell you how long i tried to figure that out when i first got mine. I must have skiped that page or something. or im just retarted and cant read.
json3904 08-08-2009, 10:27 PM the 1st gen docent even have a trany temp sensor so how would you get the reading on the SC????
carrottop432 08-08-2009, 10:45 PM the 1st gen docent even have a trany temp sensor so how would you get the reading on the SC????
I just recently found out that it doesn't have a temp sensor. I did find this post (http://www.nissanforums.com/truck-suv/154312-xgauge-code-transmission-temp.html) that gave me some hope, but that's all shattered now. :( The MAP sensor should tell me my boost level for the SC, though. (At least I think it should). The vehicle has to have a way to know the boost level, and I want it plastered across my scangauge screen!
Don't feel bad, johngraves2. My friend came over yesterday to get me to pull his codes, but the scangauge wouldn't even come on when hooked to his vehicle. I shot an e-mail to the folks at scangauge, but haven't got a reply yet. I just noticed (while looking for an answer to your question) the troubleshooting section. What's the FIRST THING listed? "Problem: Nothing displayed and no backlight. Solution: Check fuses, retard." GAH! I'm an idiot.
json3904 08-08-2009, 10:49 PM i havent messed with the Xguage version yet cause i bought mine a few years ago before the Xguage came out.. ... but i just sent mine to joey at linear logic and when i get it back i will play with it...
Silver Dude 08-09-2009, 01:13 AM There is a tranny temp sensor but I believe it is mostly as a failsafe device and isn't monitored by the ECU. Tranny gets to hot it will not shift into overdrive
pro2amendment 08-09-2009, 05:41 AM BTW... I already checked the ones on scangauge's website, but I don't think many of them work for the xterra other than the horsepower one, which is obviously a little off. I don't think my X has 290HP, although I'm sure it uses enough gas for a 290HP engine!
I got to get mine - I could use the Xtra horsepower :)
NateDawgG 08-09-2009, 11:38 AM I think it is totally worth it. The best thing mine has done (aside from looking really cool nestled up above my rearview mirror) is tell me a code my computer started throwing a few months back. I went online, figured out what the code meant and decided it wasn't something that needed immediate action. Another cool feature is you can use your SGII to clear the engine code so the obnoxious yellow light goes off.
carrottop432 08-09-2009, 05:20 PM I knew the horsepower gauge on the scangauge was horribly inaccurate, but today I filled my tank up and was pulling a trailer home. I nailed the gas to redline through first and second and my peak HP was 440. WTF? That's just retarded. Just our of curiosity, what readings are y'all getting on your scangauge's horsepower readout?
Yeah I revved mine once and hit 1900hp now that was with premium gas but still... :)
I really wish the tranny temp would display on the scangauge, that's my only disappointment with the unit. Otherwise now that I'm putting in my fillups regularly, the distance to empty and gallons used are very close unless I'm off roading or going through a lot of mountains.
It's also kind of scary to display trip cost as you're going down the road and watching it count up!
For whatever reason I've settled on air inlet temp, distance to empty, mpg & water temp.
NateDawgG 08-10-2009, 01:37 PM Yeah I revved mine once and hit 1900hp now that was with premium gas but still... :)
Wow..... I have got to get one of those new Xterras.
:anbeten-big:
johngraves2 08-10-2009, 02:40 PM I think my HP reading is very acurate. Flooring it up the steep mountain roads here in CO the most I ever got was 153. If i am in my neighboor hood and take my foot off the break with it in gear, it says 6.9.
I would double checked those numbers you need to put in for it to be displayed. I bet you might have like one wrong number or something.
TN4x4Xterra 08-10-2009, 02:50 PM I have it and no problems.
Sorry to bring this back to life, has anybody got the transmission temp function to work on a Nissan ? Thanks....
