What is the best way to remove the name plate and model designation badging? I would like to remove these to make the X look sleek, but don't want to damage the paint at all.
I heard that you can use a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive and pull gently?

Well the nissan badge from my rear hatch was sitting in the console when I got my X. I don't know what the previous owner's trick was. There wasn't a trace of it on the liftgate though. So what're you gonna do with your old badging?

I did it to the back of my '06 SE.Before you use the hair dryer take some fishing line and pull it behind the badges. The Nissan hamburger badge has 2 pegs holding it in place,so just work around them. Now you can pull the badges off.The hard part is removing the adhesive that`s left behind. Now use the hair dryer to soften that up and some GooGone and a rag and maybe a credit card to gently scrape off what`s left.Go slow and be careful.Mine came out without a scratch.
Good luck!

all of the above is true. i used to work in a detail shop for a nissan dealer when i was in college. we would occassionally have to remove old stickers and badging on some of our cars. you can use a hair dryer, just be careful, you don't want to get it too hot, or you can damage the paint. most of the badging is all stick on, although i've never tried to get them off an x. the fishing line trick will probably help as well. once you get the badge off, a lot of hot soapy water and a terry cloth towel will probably be the best way to go for the glue. once you get it all clean, make sure you wash it up real well and apply a couple solid coats of wax, especially if you don't plan on putting the badge back on, otherwise the sun will damage the paint pretty quickly since it has been covered up for so long. hope this helps

Want to know an easier way to get the adhesive off?
If you don't mid spending ten bucks, pick one of these up from your local auto parts store.
It's a 3M Stripe-off wheel that you chuck into your drill. All it is is a big hunk of rubber. You just 'erase' the adhesive off of the vehicle.

Those work well too. We used them at a place I used to work at to remove the vinyl signage on our fleet vehicles. You'll still need some type of adhesive type cleaner to remove all of the traces but these "erasers" will get the bulk of the gunk off.

I wish I knew about those stripe off wheels. But if you haven`t tried to take the badges off an Xterra they just might not work so good. There was a $hit load of adhesive on the back of the long Xterra badge.I doubt soap and water would have removed it.
Thanks for the complements guys. Here`s a few more pics.file:///Users/imacg4/Desktop/%5BIMG%5Dhttp-::i163.photobucket.textClipping
