Two days ago my alarm went off with noone or thing around. turned it off by inserting my key in door and turning. After that, it will not do a thing. No lights, radio, no click. Absolutely dead. checked the battery and it is okay. Read online about changing the battery in my clicker so I did that but then busted the clicker putting the new battery in.

I have seen others online with same issue but no one ever posts what the solution turned out to be. Its a factory alarm.

thanks in advance for help

You were SUPPOSED to turn it off by just hitting the fob button for example.

I believe that by using the key instead, it interpreted that as a potential break-in, and killed the electrical to prevent the theft of your X.

You MIGHT be able to reset it all by disconnecting the truck battery for a day or two, and then trying again.

The fobs are expensive, so I hope you have a spare, or spare $.

Yeah I know, but without fob in hand and horn blaring my motivation was shut off the noise. You would think that the key in door wouldnt silence the horns if it is interpreting a break in. I disconnected battery and will give it a shot in the a.m.

I can't find it right now, but you may try looking in your owners manual. There is a prceedure for resetting the alarm, and for using the alarm without the key fob. Every car has it. My brain is a bit fuzzy on exactly what to do, but from what I remember you need to lock the vehicle with the key, drivers door only, wait for the alarm to set, then unlock the vehicle with the key (same door) and everything should be fine. Again, I am a tad fuzzy on the exact way but I think that is close.

I'll see if I can find the exact way, in the mean time start locking and unlocking the doors with the key :)

First try searching found me this, try putting the key in the drivers door and turning it TWO time to the right. If that doesn't work try locking the X up with the key and try again.

Mine goes off alot and I dont have a keyless remote. For example it went off yesterday when I tried to open my tailgate for some reason. I got my actual key out put it in the drivers door and turned it...it stopped. Its done this maybe 5 times in my ownership and ive never had any problems with my car. Maybe try using a code reader?? But I don't see it being messed up because you used the door lock to turn the alarm off.

tried locking unlocking twice etc numerous times to no avail. I will keep trying different sequences. My guess is I need a new fob. Hopefully they can key it for me at dealer with the vin number.

thanks for your help and if you have an other thought please post.

This was the drivers door, right......Hmmmm, stupid question, with the key in the ignition, and the door open, does the door chime go off??? If not, check that fuse and replace. Without the door chime working the X won't start either.

It is drivers door and i can get into the truck. It is completely dead. No lights, buzzers, clicking anything. It is as if the battery is not connected. I can only unlock the driver door form that keyhole. Cannot double twist key to unlock other doors and hatch. I fI understand, you say the door chime fuse may have something to do with it? I'll check as well as other fuses. Could it be an ignition relay? the only symptom was the alarm going off totally out of the blue. When I turned the alarm off, I didnt bother to try to start car. Just locked driver door with key and left it.

Ok, I am understanding a bit more with what you just posted. It is sounding like you blew a fuse or relay. I would check them all, if everything looks good I would look for the door chime, and one for the alarm, and replace even if they still look good. Not sure howmuch you know about the X, but there is one fuse box under the dash on the drivers side and one fuse box under the hood.........by the battery??? Cr%P, can't remember, I'll check when I get home, but it's about 6 to 8 inches long and 2 to 4 wide, and has a black cover on it. Sorry if you already know of both of these, just figured I would post incased you missed one.

You may also try doing what TJTJ said and disconnect your battery for awhile then reconnect. There is a chance this will work, but if it does it's goign to set off the alarm again, so be ready (to not hit your head on the hood when it scares the sh$t out of you) Then try the double turn to unlock and unarm the X with the key again.

Possibly the relay under the hood on the passengers side, there are several relays and one is to the alarm system. The relay may have gone to hell!

Follow-up. Went back out. Disconnected battery and cleaned both the posts and connectors, checked all fuses inside and out, then unbolted and cleaned the negative battery cable where it connects to the engine. That cable was stiff. with muti meter, checked connectivity from one end the the ground cable to the other and could only get a beep after twisting cable around. In doing so, a lot of corrosion came out from the sheathing. Connected it back and got everything to work. BAD GROUND. Tomorrow i will replace it.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Sounds like the car alarm was a Red Herring.

It was a simple battery cable corrosion issue...that obviously developed over time....and chose right THEN to reach its breaking point.
