Help...new member of the forum, old member of the Xterra club (unregistered). Had a 2000 4x4 and traded in for an '05 4x4. This thing had the stock 265 70 16 AT tires on it. I want a little taller and wider look without lift kits or performance problems from oversized rubber. I like Mud Dawg and Mud King tires, but I need a litlle help on best size!!

I am going to stumble around here for a while, but I hope I'll catch on! Thanks for the help! I will go through the "tire threads" this evening when I get off work to see what I can find!

I have read that the 2nd Gen's can take up to a 33" tire without any mods and depending on your rim width you could do a 11.5" wide tire or even a 12.5" wide if you have an 8" wide rim.

The tire you want will really depend on the majority of driving you do. If you are primarily on streets then I would recommend an A/T instead of a M/T because you will wear down your tread fast with aggressive tread.

U can do max size of 285/75/16. and go with Firestone Destination M/t's.

You will probably will have to melt the plastic on the wheel well. to prevent rubbing

I had to remove the mud flaps, do a small 2.5" strut spacer and then I fit the 285/70R16 tires. I also removed the front little air dam junk in the front. Then I personally chose the Geolanders, but they're not really a mud tire. There are a ton of M/T's out there.

you can go with a 285/75R16 with no lift. You will need to do a melt mod on the inner rear part of the plastic in the wheel well.
I have the Toyo Open Country MT's and they are wicked. They have been great in the snow, good in the mud and they are ok on the highway. A bit noisy, but I don't mind. They have a very aggressive look.
Here is a pic before my lift.

and one after the PRG 2" spacer and Mini Deaver AAL in the back.

That's a nice looking rig you've got Bueller. Good stance to it. Keep the pics coming.

285 75r16 requires alittle work, so what is the next smaller size? That should be the biggest tire I can handle "stock". 275 75r16?

275 75r16 is best with no mods?

I might just have to do a few mods..I sure like the looks of Buewller's X!

I have an '89 Mazda 4x4 with lifts and big shoes though, so you may be right..may not need 2 of them!
