These are a great trip to East TN. Will be camping That Friday night (09-30-11)
and Wheeling at one of the East Coast's best parks. Over 72,000 acres of land.. Thats 120 miles of trails..

This place has it all easy trail rides to hard core rocks

And besides, it looks like there'd be rocks and stuff in the way too...we'd have to drive OVER them, which is really just sooo inconvenient...I mean, really, shouldn't they pave over all that so it would be so bumpy?

I went there once when I still had my 4 wheeler and I remember seeing ton of rock crawlers and jeeps. I know they aren't open every weekend though. Looks like we would have to call them to check their schedule since they don't have a 2011 schedule posted on their website though. I'm not even 100% sure they're even open anymore. I know for a while they were shutdown by the EPA until they fixed some of their trails so the wouldn't go through certain streams but I'm pretty sure they opened back up after that.

I think they may be under new management as well. At least I hope so. The old management was one of the big reasons why the EPA stormed in there. They didn't give a shit what went on in the park. If you look at vids of Summertown, you will see a LOT of vids of guys on obstacles with a beer in hand and some of those videos were shot by park "employees". It was mainly a big redneck playground with little to no restrictions. I really hope it has changed because it has potential if it is maintained and managed right.

I'm game for wheeling at wheeling.

Depending on how many make it, I think we need at least 2 groups to venture out onto some new trails. Not to leave anyone out or be picky but the groups need at least two capable rigs for recovery because there is no telling what you might get into. Even if the groups are only 2 or 3 rigs, that will work. For me as well as a few others I'm sure, CC is an expensive trip for me to make and I won't be able to do near as many scouting runs as would be necessary like it was for Wooly's.

We can take notes of the trails, group them by difficulty and come up with some specific loops to designate for NXM to simplify things so that we don't have people driving around looking for trails and guessing on what to trails to take with no idea of what is in store for them. Most of us know the southern half of the park pretty well, especially the easy trails so we should venture further up north and cover some ground there.

If any of the guys with four wheelers want to make an extra run up there sometime to scout trails I'd be up for it. I know with the Rhino I can usually make a lot better time down the trails than you guys. I've done 50+ miles of trails in one day before on a four wheeler. That was 10 solid hours of riding but if you guys pick some trails on the map you'd like to have scouted, I would be willing to run up there with some other 4 wheelers and check them out. Luke and Ryan, I'm looking at you!

Ahh might as well count me in. I just bought another set of wheels and some more tires. I will make sure that nothing gets scheduled work wise during the weekend of the run. Might have a buddy from Memphis coming with me in a rock crawling yota.

They have small cabins and bunkhouses as well as RV hook-ups and bathhouses. Some of their cabins have kitchenettes and showers. Very well maintained and just a mile or so from the park entrance.

I am in for both the scouting run and the actual run, it will depend on the date for the scouting run but if it is a weekend I should be good. This looks like a fun run!

I might try to make it down. I was planning on headed there for the 2012 event. It's a haul for me though and I need to get some more things done to the truck. Not sure my stock X can handle those trails. Looks like I will need some sliders and skids before I attempt.

I've been there many times when my X was bonestock. There are many, many trails you can do without issue in a stock X. We have a good loop for stock Xterras that is really fun and usually takes around 6 hours to run. We will have multiple groups and one of them will be for the stock Xterras and inexperienced drivers and those not ready to get some scratches. We've had one or two X's that were literally straight off the dealership lot on that loop. :)

I'll be borderline stock, but im also in a second gen. I will have the factory skids and some armor. Last time I led an intermediate group up there and we all had fun. There wasn't any notable trail damage at all. I've already picked out some good moderate trails for us to do this time. I guess i'll be leading the stock group again.

Sounds good. I am doing a pml this weekend and will get tires put on next. Maybe by October I can get a few more things done. I'm gonna try to get out a few times around here, to see how much it can handle.

It will be fun and you can see how awesome your truck really is.

OCT '09, dave, luke, and I were all pretty much bone stock besides recovery points and cb's, we all had a blast, and no issues at all.

How open/tight we keeping this run? I could post it on my local board, but I don't think we have many nissans on there.

Hey guys reading this it seems alot of people are worried about doing this in stock xs I did all but the hardest trails today and last weekend I did them with xterra 30........I'm stock to the bone just took have the running boards taken off, the front skid plate plastic removed, and the rear sway bar off. I blazed the trails so don't worry about being stock though I must say I don't want to be in the stock group mod time! X is a month old to me

everything but the black lines total hardest I did was probly finishing up 22 and 16 was a pain cuz it was wet and trying to climb that hill of like slime mud with stock tires i had to put it in low ranges and spin all the way up but it made it the creeks were a bit of a pain

Oh I know the last hill scares me being stock I've done it though with the help of xterra 30. but I'm intending a 2 inch bl and a pml before October keeping stock tires since there like new getting new rims and 33s in the the spring

Alright it is 17 per person a day.....It is 16.50 for a camp site per tent for two people and 3 dollars for anyone extra its high but its worth it an all together amazing place miles and miles of trails! I'll be there all weekend

Got a couple of questions. i got a stock X 2wd right now, when i get home im planning on putting some A/T's on it and doing a pml, would i have alot of problems with this place or should i be fine for most of it?

It depends on the weather really.. I know we have taken a 2wd down 22, 26, and 27.. And He did pretty good.. Only needed to be pulled once..
BUT if its wet.. I dont know.. ITs all driver.. If you dont mind getting in the skinny pedal you might be ok..

Actually it was wet when I was thee last I had forgotten at the beginning of 22 where u cross the bridge to engage my 4wd it took me a till I hit the cross roads to realize I was in 2wd not 4wd

If you have a 2wd please realize that your level of success on this trip will depend completely upon the weather. If its wet, you would be best to ride with a 4wd. This is not an area you want to test your stuff in. If you break something,we will.most likely be miles from the trailhead. Please consider that when making your decision on whether or not you come and drive or ride along.

Very muddy that day.. They had about 10" of snow that had been melting for a week.. Made some of the basic easy hill climbs hard and fun.. Cool part was one side of the hill it was 70deg Other side was 40s with about 4 " of snow everywhere

I'm in for adventure but I'm also not up for tearing my truck up! Also I'm hoping for dry somewhat because I'm going to run be running road tires till about spring but pml and bl will be done so it wont be to bad as long as its not to wet I'm all over but I still get alot of places you wouldnt believe in the wet any chance I can lead a 16 trail group go down two and cut over I've done it so mny times now I'm probly best on that one I know all the little tricks!

After talking with Dave last night, target trails for the "adventure" group might be #3, #4, #5 and #6. A few of them are still listed as "moderate" but erosion and traffic have turned some obstacles on a couple of these trails into "difficult" and I would STRONGLY suggest only those with skid plates and sliders go with this group.

Time permitting, I am also considering taking those willing to step into the unknown onto #39 and possibly #15. I've run #39 before and it has an impossible obstacle for our rigs at the end but I want to see if it has had any maintenance done to it or a bypass has been made around it because the trail is a good one.

I cannot wait :D

I went there a few weeks ago for the first time and wheeled for two days and only managed to cover about 30 miles of trails. That place is huge (insert "thats what she said joke!)

Anyways I am up for some new trails because I rode #22 and #16 to death.

I'm looking forward to the Oct run and see some of the other trails are like. When they say difficult on some of these trails they mean it, I could barely walk on some of them.

#16 was a great trail. The first day we only rode it up to the waterfall and turned around. The second day we started from the top of #16 and took it all the way back, very fun in my opinion. The creek crossing is pretty fun.

It is definitely still a fun trail and if the conditions are right, (or wrong depending on your perspective) very challenging. There used to be a few sections that were literally just long stretches of boulder fields. I think one of them is still there but the larger rocks were removed.

The NOAS 2009 video has my video clip of Tuff and another guy (Patrick I think) doing it. Patrick is in a pathy and shows no fear of the skinny pedal. :D I've also got a small video clip of me on it but it ends with my ass-end in the air from a boulder rolling up under my damn leaf perch. Which sucked because I made it through all of the hard s*** only to have that happen. And that was back when I was on bald tires and only had skid plates. I did it in 2010 but no video because I was trail leader... again. I hate being trail leader sometimes. lol

I just wanted to post up here for the 2wds that you should be in the semi adventure group. However, if it rains, you will most likely be restricted to easy trails and gravel roads or riding with another person. We can't risk doing serious damage and the good time of everyone else because a 2wd won't make it over some obstacles. I'm not saying this to be a dick, I just want wvryone to ha a great time, and if we are having to strap up all day it won't be as much fub

That was my buddy Tuff and yes his window was up. Unfortunately, he was out of washer fluid so we had to use gatorade to clean off his window. :hilarious:

Im excited about going with everyone on my "first" real off road adventure, but im scared as hell lol My X is my baby and right now she is completely stock besides some Falken Wildpeak A/T's and black KMC XD series HOSS rims lol. I just dont wanna tear my X up too bad because i am only 17 and work part time lol but im already saving for this trip!!! plan on doing a pml and 2in BL by then or atleast the pml and add a CB and remove my sway bar.

PML, sway bar removal, and heavy duty TRA (Tie Rod Adjusters) would benefit you the most at this point unless you are changing tires.

I love them the tread pattern is pretty sweet. If youre going on the run you can see them for yourself lol. I mainly got them for the big snows we sometimes get here because i live on a very dangerous road and also the little bit of mud i go through

Well just put in for my vaca time. I'll be headed down Friday morning and should get there sometime in the afternoon to set up camp.

Depends on the weather as to whether or not I camp. Rain doesn't really bother me but the heat does. Once it gets a little closer we can work on a camping arrangement. They have very large campgrounds so getting spots together shouldn't be a problem.
