I am about to pull the trigger on my Soft 8's. I have been to 2 wheel shops here in town. One says you can't have the center caps, the other says its no problem. I have noticed most people I have seen on here do not have the center caps. I like the look of the caps. Does anyone know for sure? Also, both shops priced these installed at 420 for 16X8 lugs, installed, out the door. Summit has them for 225 shipped to my house, plus $60 for my local shop to put them on. Is their anything else i need to worry about?

Thanks

Shop around more and more. The best shopping tool that I have found is google product.

What you need or should get is 5.5 B.S.

You should be able to get them all mounted, and balanced for about $50

Can't have the centercaps? That sounds like BS to me. What made you go with 16 x 8 rims? 15" rims are cheaper on the rubber.

Pull the trigger man! Go for it! If they have the correct bolt pattern and you're comfortable with the backspacing they are selling you then do it. BTW... what is the backspacing they are selling you?

I am getting 16x8 because I have 16 inch wheels and tires now. And, my tires are new so I don't want to buy wheels and tires. They are selling me 16x8 6x5.5 with 5in backspacking. This is both in the shops and on Summitracing.com.

Ok that makes sense... for some reason I was just naturally assuming you were getting tires as well.

Make sure you post some pics when you get the new shoes!

I'm looking to get soft 8's for mine as well but I'm going with a 15 x 8 and then I'm wrapping them in Interco Trxus STS 33's. And I'm getting the centercaps but I'm sanding them up and painting them black. I'm gonna murder out my wheels! lol

The shop that said the centercaps might not work thought that maybe they would not fit over the hubs in the front.

That is a good idea drake...mind if I steal that!?!?!

And, i will definitely post some pics, I am doing the PML at the same time.

Now that is a possibility. I didn't take into account the hubs but I would think somebody would sell an open end cap.

Hey guys, I have the soft 8's on mine from Summit Racing 15in. and they did come with the center caps. I sanded them down and painted black like Drake said--the caps work just fine on there--PLENTY OF ROOM--DON'T LET THEM B.S. YOU AT THE TIRE SHOP.....GOOD LUCK

Ok, sweet, I will order them with caps then. I just spoke with the 4 wheel drive shop here in town that I have been talking to. He was shocked at the price of the Soft 8 on Summit. He said they must have a warehouse full of them. His quote was 425 mounted and out the door. I can get them 225 off summit and he will charge me around 75 to install them.

Definitely post a pic so we can see them.

Hey guys---was working on getting some pics up and the wife accidently broke the camera. In the process of getting a new one and will get some pics up as soon as I can. OUMOOSE--that's what I paid for mine ($225) to the door---not bad at all--gotta love the Summit:thumbsup-big: Also ask about new lugs for them. Got a complete set of chrome(wanted black) but black was on back-order--for an extra $25--just to throw that out there!!

Thanks DD forgot about the lugs.

And, can you tell me the best way to paint the caps? What you used to sand them down, and what paint?

Any help would help!

I used an 80 grit to scuff them down--also a sandable primer(Walmart $3 or so), and used a texture black semi-gloss(almost like a rhino liner texture to it). You can go either route with the black you use; use a flat or semi-gloss(semi looks a bit better with the color of the wheel). My father introduced me to this spray-on chip guard from the paint supply store and he already used it on his Dodge Ram and came out great. After the LOVELY SNOW melts around here I am going to do my bumpers, along the body line, and down the center of the hood(just because=) something different.( Kinda of like what the other guy did on here with the Herculiner) looks cool and protects. Hope this helps..
