Bofaking

I just bought my X, and an 06 Quest, both vehicles only came with one key and one fob. The dealership wants $45 dollars for a key and then $95-140 to program it!! CRAZY!! I've found the right key with the chip in it on eBay for around $18 shipped. But I still have to have it programmed right? What is the best and cheapest way to have that done? I've think I’ve got the fob problem solved so that’s not an issue. Any suggestions on the key?

dealer has to program the key. Though it shouldn't cost that much. I bought a key and had it programed at my dealer for about $65 total.

Newer Nissans must be connected to Consult-II (or III) to have their transponder keys programmed. It's unfortunate and it sucks, but "them's the breaks."
I recently bought 4 keys from 'transponder island' via ebay, total cost 51.95
went ot a local locksmith[which was referred by their website] and they cut and programmed them for 51.30 inc tax so 4 keys total out of pocket, 103.25.
the 05 up can only take 5 keys at a time, so with the remote start key, I ended up with one cut unprogrammed key, which will rpobably cost me 50 bucks to get programmed if I ever need it.
Much cheaper than the dealer

Sweet! Also, I saw that ACE hardware also has chip keys that they make in store. Something to look into. It seems that there is always a cheaper alternative to the stealership.

I had my Nissan Dealer make me a second key for $8.00 (only a month ago) so I am not too sure why you guys are paying so much. I live in Ontario but I can't see the price being that much of a difference in the states.

Weird I know but it is true.
