Hi, the dealer quoted $1,400 to replace timing belt & water pump for my 102,000 mile X. Can anyone recommend any shops where I can get it replaced for a reasonable cost near Boston? I travel to CT frequently and anywhere close to Hartford-New Haven would work too.

Thanks

Check out this site. It's Car Talk from NPR and it has user-submitted reviews of mechanics all over. That's how I found my timing belt mechanic last year :)

There's a shop called checkered flag in Middletown or Wallingford CT. They quoted me $700. Really good guys, my father in law has been bringing his stuff there for years.

Xtacular I found a mechanic on the Car Talk site and the shop is a few blocks from where I live. I got a quote for $700 and I'll take it in on Tuesday.

thanks

Got the timing belt, water pump, timing belt tensioner & gasket replaced for $785. The check engine light came on, and I was told the timing belt sensor needs replacing. The garage will order the part tomorrow. I did a search and I couldn't find anything on this type of sensor. Any thoughts?
