The Story...

I have an 02 Xterra that is currently being worked on by a Nissan Dealership.. The check engine light was coming on and I was having acceleration issues around the 65-75 mph mark... They said I have a cracked Intake Manifold and needed plugs, wires, and fuel injector flush ($800).... Got it back and still had the same problem.... took it back in and they replaced the ECU (Electronic Control Unit).... said it was fixed again... now it is in for a 3rd time in 7 days and they are replacing the fuel injector in chamber 5.... this is going to cost another ($530).....

Questions:
- Has anyone heard of Nissan honoring a warranty issue that occurs within 1K of the mileage experiation?

- Does anyone think Nissan should refund me for the initial $800 charge since that isn't what the problem was?

Thanks.

Dealerships are in the business of making money, they did the work, u have to pay, even if it's not what's wrong. an Audi service guy explained to me, they you are hiring them for their time, not to get the car fixed. thus, they spent time, u pay for it. sucks, but the work got done. My suggestion run the codes yourself, see what's wrong, then go to another mechanic and have them fix it.

the dealership will screw you every time
they dont have to worry about repeat customers, so as a rule they dont care about you

if you can be more specific regarding the accleratino issues you are having, we may be able to help you

Treat your mechanical issues just like health issues. If you aren't sure what the problem is and you have to trust it to a mechanic then always get a second opinion. Maybe even a third.

It's just like the other guys say, they aren't paid to fix it, they are paid to work on it. It sux but that's the nature of the beast.

i disagree if they misdiagnose then its on them..... also when they misdiagnose and you pay for it they are supposed to fix it right!!!!!! they offer a warranty for the repairs.......

To go with this get the codes read at a place like Auto Zone and post them here.

That's really a broad generaliztation there Ricer-X. In fact, I resent that comment.

Maybe in large metroplitan areas dealers don't worry about repeat customers, but here in the middle of Pennsylvania repeat customers are our bread-and-butter.

Anyway, OP, be a little more specific and I'll ask techs about your problem.

you are right, it was a generalization
big city dealerships will try to screw me at every turn, and every big city member will back that
every experience ive had repair/maintainance wise has been horrid
buying my truck was an absolutely fabulous experience, and every time i stop by for parts has been good excpt one time when the guy who answered the phone was a noob and told me they hada a part that was actually at a dealership 30 miles away

mossy nissan broke my truck while doing a repair that i was being lazy about(vacuum leak in my intake, resulting in a cat failing) broke my fan shroud, which effed up my power steering cooler line which caused all of my PS fluid to drain in my driveway

they tried to charge me for the tow, the repair and everything else
the service rep told me i screwed with something when i got it home, we argued for a lil while, then they covered it

the body shop at baker jackson nissan took my rubber floor mats out of my truck while doing some insurance covered body work, and told me(and i quote) "tough shit", then didnt want to fix the rust spots on a door that they replaced during said body work

sorry if i offended you bro it was not my intention, but its the way i feel, my experince certainly supports it

lol
and that was at 2 diff dealers in the same city
i was just glad to be done with it

now that you mention how it is at middle of nowhere dealers
perhaps if i ever end up back at a dealer for work, ill drive all the way out to angleton.

i understand how my perspective is different from most peeps in the city, but thats bc i know a few mechanics personally, and i see the difference in how they treat their customers versus the dealerships here and it disgusts me

Well, we've got people that have been buying cars here for over 30 years. It's also a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

There are quite a few people around here who may buy cars from other Nissan dealerships but bring them to us for service. If that's any indication of how we do things.

There is a major difference between metro dealers and, I dare say, rural dealers. Nissan, the company, is only concerned with C.S.I. (Customer Serivce Index.) Scores. Larger dealers can pad their scores with their huge number of sales while their service and parts departments hand out crappy service, if you follow. Smaller dealerships like ours don't have the luxury of a large sales volume so we all have to work hard to keep that C.S.I. number up.

That pretty much the gist of if, anyway. It's even confusing to me.
