I posted this over at XOC, then I found this site. I prefer v-bulletin, so we'll see which site I end up sticking with.

Hey everybody, I'm new to the board with my first X. I've been wanting an Xterra since they came out my sophomore year of high school. I've been keeping my eye on the insurance auctions lately, and I found what I was looking for! :D

It's a silver 2000, 158K, 5 speed, ARB bullguard bumper, 6000 lb Warn winch, rancho lift, rancho air shocks with in cab controls, hitch that's locked on (no key), and some yakima racks(also no key).

Got it for $2250. The catch is, it was in a flood two months ago.

Here's how she looked before I got started...

I've done a lot of work already, and have managed to get it started. Fixed the foglights, keyless entry, horn (though it still sounds sick), had the mirrors going for a bit, then they died again. Winch solenoids click, but sounds like the motor is sizzling. All operational lights operate, but I had to order new headlights. Old ones couldn't be saved after having water in them for two months. Tail lights cleaned up alright. Seats are turned inside out right now. Both front seats wouldn't slide forward or back; found out that pennies, dimes, and quarters had fallen out of people's pockets and lodged in the rails. Watch out for that, seems like it could happen to anyone. All the seats, carpet, console, trim, etc is pulled out and has been basking in the sun. I think things will clean up ok, should be a nice rig when I'm done. :D

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah, I'll have to make sure I start putting the screwdriver down long enough to snap some shots. Too bad I didn't a little sooner, I've already made tons of progress with nothing to remember how it started. :frown:

So I was thinking, I probably don't want to turn this into a big lengthy restoration thread in the member introduction section. So where should I be starting a new thread? I don't have a feel for what goes where quite yet. What do you guys think, General Discussion? Show and Tell?

What was the deal with the horn? Mine also sounds like it is dieing now. I did a bit of a nose dive into a deeper than I thought mud hole and now it gives more of a chirp than a honk. Wondering if you figured out what was causing it. I should have some more time to really take a look at it either tmw or Sun. Nice work restoring yours by the way.

Well, being an electro-mechanical transducer afterall, I think it was just ruined by the water. I checked the connections and voltage going to it and everything, nothing wrong there. I'll probably swap it for something different someday.

Brandon, I think it is safe to say that the number one killer of horns themselves is water. If you are getting chirping, then it is going. If you are getting nothing then it seems to usually be the wiring right next to the horn.

Welcome to the club! Very cool of you to save an X from death! I'll keep a lookout for your progress. Even after a flood, it's still a pretty rig!
