Just purchased my new '06 X two weeks ago..and I am looking to upgrade to a larger, more aggressive tire... anyone know how big I can go on my stock 16" rims?? Also, looking to add a 2.5 inch lift down the not too distant road..what can I run then?? Any help is much appreciated!

You can fit 33's (285/75R16)
Even with the 2.5" lift you can not run any larger. The limiting factor is the rear wheel well. You might be able to get a 34-35" if you go with the SLR or Calmini 5" lift and the AC 3" body lift. But then you have to worry if the front diff can take it. Stick with the 33's and you'll be good.
It seems a popular tire is the BFG KO's. I am going to try and fit a set of 33" Super Swamper TSL Boggers once aftermarket wheels are availble.

Only if you mount them white wall out.

33's will fit with no lift?? That is sweet!! No rubbing when turning? What about width?? 10.50 or 12.50??

Yep, 33's with no lift.
285's = 11.5
There is very little rubbing in the front. This is fixed by taking a hair dryer or heat gun and bending a bit of the plastic inner fender. No cutting needed.

33's look sweet on the '05/'06. If you don't want the wheel well rubbing, just get a heat gun, heat the well up and push it up.

The only problem I ran into was that your Speed-o and odometer will be off a bit. You will be going faster than the speed-o says and you will be traveling further than the odometer states.
Here is an odd angle of 285/75R16 BFG MT's on an 05 with 2.5" lift.

Here is me changing the tires in the parking lot of the tire shop. The rear are 285's, the front are the stock 265's.

the speedometer and odometer can be recalibrated to fit the larger wheels.... without recalibrating them you're running illegally and will have a lot of trouble if you ever go to trade off the vehicle or run into needing an accurate odometer reading for anything.
I'm sure Nissan has the recalibration package... we have it for Chevrolets and it runs about $120... that's probably about the same pricing for everywhere.

Nope, the Odometer and Speedometer are controled by the ECU and there is no update for it. It's off so little that no one would ever know any way (less than 4%)
Edit: That is for an Offroad version. An X or S version is about 7% off if you go with 285/75R16's.

A guy down the street from me got a set of 70 series 16s and said they even rubbed on the mud flaps and had to exchange them......my 17s are on borrowed time and I want something cheap!!!!!!!!!!1

That's ok, I'm used to that. I had a Ford Expedition with a 7" lift and 37's before I got the X.
