: 2002 front bumper on 2000???

Hi,

I assume this subject has been already discussed but I didn't find anything pretty clear on the previous posts.
I was looking to mount the 2002 front bumper on my 2000 Xterra. Is it possible without any trims or mods?

I really love the '02 bumper look...

Thanks

Can somebody answer my question?

I think it's possible to fit the 2 different bumpers. Somebody should have tried this already....

As far as I know, nobody's tried it. It should fit vertically, but it may stick out from the body in some places.

Guys?

I can't believe that nobody tried this yet....

Anybody has, at least, the specs of the two bumpers so we check the dims?

I could be wrong but I think you would have to change the grille and the you would have to change the headlights so theyd match up and then also the hood. If you could just swap the bumpers I would do it but there seems to be too many parts that wouldnt match up.

Not the best pic.. Used the 360 view and screen captures on Edmunds to get a "side-by-side"

Edit> Using the same two pictures, I resized the 02 so it matched the 01 as best as I could.. and then used a transparency mask on the 02 to get just the bumper on the 01.. and it's a damn close looking fit...

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_PCQmM_5bxzM/TZ0g80Fg9WI/AAAAAAAAAKg/dW3wYno8AB4/01with02.png

Started with a small picture, so I scaled it up a bit (a bit blurry)

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_PCQmM_5bxzM/TZ0hHmhccRI/AAAAAAAAAKk/LuSpwom_kzU/01with02-200.png
(right below the grill should be a blank spot where the 02 bumper wouldn't fill.. but I kinda missed that when I ran the pencil over on the transparency mask layer. Opps, you can tell I'm no graphics artist!)

Of course I don't know if any of the mounting holes and supports changed locations or anything, and the square head lights with rounded fog lights just looks goofy to me :)

After looking at the pic Id say for sure that you cant just swap bumpers. I like the look of the 02-04 bumper better itself but it wouldnt really flow with the square headlights or more squared off grille of the 00-01 IMO.

Thank you guys.

It looks like it's not an easy thing!
The fact is that on Ebay there are some sellers that sell the front bumper that, they say, should fit all the models 00-04
(http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSAN-XTERRA-00-04-FRONT-BUMPER-COVER-01-02-03-NEW-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aNissanQ7cModelQ3aXt erraQ7cYearQ3a2002QQhashZitem35b0e1ce69QQitemZ2306 00855145QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccess ories)

Maybe the upper part (the one with mask and the lights) wont fit, but the lower one should....

Been there, done it, looks good.

I prefer the look way more than the stock 2000 bumper.

The 02 bumper is more rounded than the squared off 2000 grill, so there is a slight gap, but it is very manageable, and from far, not noticable.

It bolts right up...no mods needed.

No pix right now, put I'll take some rainy photos tonight and post them up.

Yes I did! Big thanks to you. Mounted the next day. added PIAA 520's an hour ago. I think I might sell my stocker. Maybe someone around here wil want it to fix damage or upgrade a 2000/2001 like this thread.

For th guy that did the swap, post some pics when you can. I will be sweet to see one done.

the marker light is broken on the passenger side, and it could do with a little tweaking to get the body gaps right, but all in all, it fits just fine with no modifications.

A funny twist to this thread. While putting together my '00 X i decided to fit the headlights, grill and hood off of my former '02. The '00 bumper is on it for now until i get an awaiting ARB cleaned up and painted. The gaps are a bit off but it will do for now.

The reinforcements are totally different from the 2000 & 2001 than the 2002 - 2004. The complete front end is different, but I believe someone has put a 2002 - 2004 bumper setup on a 2000 before. I think it had some small gaps between the grille and bumper but did not look bad at all.

sandor
12-27-2011, 07:41 AM
the bumper reinforcements are similar, but not identical. They both will bolt up to any year of first gen Xterra without any modification.

The early model reinforcement bar did not include the two additional reinforcement blocks on the front side of the bar that the later models had. Other than that, they are the same.
