Do you plan on towing with the bumper? If not, i would say don't worry about it.

Give shrockworks a call. I got just the frame stiffeners from them probably less than a year ago. Cost about $100 for my '02.

For those of you who got the Shrock ones, do you remember how long it took to get them? Also are these a must have for towing? I am getting a rear bumper made with a built in hitch and have to tow a trailer, nothing the X can't handle, down to AZ and back in about a month. If this is something I have to get, I need to order them immediately

If you plan on towing I would definitely get stiffeners. The shrocks are nice because of how long they are but if you can get ahold of some stock ones that should be enough.

Thanks! I have store credit at AC and they said anything Shrock has they can get, so I think that's the route I'll go.

Just be prepared to wait, i don't think anyones gotten something from shrock in under a month. Might want to call around to some junk yards.
Yeah - get the stiffeners on there first.
The ends of the rear horns are C-Channel, not boxed like the rest of the frame....and even the weight of the rear bumper/carrier/spare tire alone, especially when the gate is swung out....is a lot for it to handle w/o stress.
The S-R rear bumper is a sturdy beast...and I would not want to hang all that armor off of an unreinforced support....or have a rear collision slam that massive steel into my rear hatch on impact either.
The oem ones are sufficient, barely...but would be better than nothing.
I have the Shrock ones, and they are a LOT sturdier, and about the same price as the OEM ones.
In a pinch, its just an L-Channel steel bar with nut-welds in it to attach to corresponding frame/bumper holes to brace it, any decent steel guy could make one that would do the job.

You might luck out with Shrock. I know most of his stuff takes a while, but I got my frame stiffeners in only a week or so. He can bang them out pretty quickly.
