: Will not start, maybe a compound problem.

This is on a 02 Xterra Auto with 170000 miles.

This has been a great truck with only minor issues until this weekend. It was turned off after driving it for 45 minutes and will not start. It does crank but will not run.

First thought was fuel pump. No Humming sound. Removed seats and access panel. No hum with key in start position. I checked power to the white and blue wire on pump terminal. No power. Followed white and blue wire to relay under the dash. Wire is good, but also no power from relay. Took out relay. Both black/white wires have 12V. When I apply 12 directly to white and blue with relay removed, the pump will run when I push down on the pump connector.
Relay will kick in when I ground the skinny white/red wire that goes to the ECM.

I think I have 2 problems. The Pump connector seemed to be in line with the recall for the 02's but when I called Nissan they said my VIN was not included.

So I am a little puzzeled with the relay issue. What else should I check there.
I will remove the tank unit tonight and check the terminals.

Any other suggestions?

how about the wires from the ECU? is it sending the signal to the relay?

According to the manual, the ECU receives a signal from a sensor that detects crankshaft movement. It primes the pump for 5 seconds and then cuts it out if no engine movement or continues to run the pump if the engine is turning.

I am not sure if the signal from the ECU is a positive or a ground. For the Relay to engage a ground would be needed I believe.
