Hey guys, I have an 06 4x4 X with stock tires. I want to get bigger offroad tires without having to buy a lift, since thats a good amount of money i dont have.
So what is the biggest size tires that would fit on a 2nd generation xterra without a lift & no rubbing? I've taken off the mud flaps if that has anything to do with bigger tires fitting.
Also on average how much do you think the new tires would cost?
Im not very educated with this so try not to confuse me ahaha.
pictures would be great, thanks guys

Ok. 285/75/16s will fit, but you have to do what is called the "melt mod". Essentially it's just heating up part of the wheel well liner and moving it so the tire doesn't rub. Not all tires require this. As far as cost, it varies by tire, but you can expect between $125-$250 per tire. If that's a bit pricey, check out treadwright.com for high quality retreads. Tire selection really depends on what youre using the x for. Good luck!
Yup.
285/75/16's are always the answer to that question.
The cost per tire is hugely variable though.
Are you going to go off roading, and, if so, on what type of terrain?
If sand, you want a AT type tread for example, and the ability to have the tire float well at low tire pressure....to avoid bogging down.
Etc.
So, what are your plans for her young man?

I must say, thanks for the input, gents! I am a Subaru guy, but got my fiancee`a 2011 S (model between the X and Off-Road, I believe) and am looking to get her some bigger tires w/o a lift. Alastor, I'll run a search for said "melt mod"! Thanks again!

I've always been a huge fan of any Goodyear Wrangler. Don't have them on my x yet but they have been on every other truck I've owned and you'll pay about 200-220 for them but their an amazing a/t tire that seem to last forever (usually 50,000-70,000 miles)
