hi, just got a 08 S 4x4. has 54 miles on it. just noticed a very quiet popping and or clunking noise from the front passenger side when coming to a stop. does not happen all the time. maybe 1 in 6 "stops". is it new parts breaking in? any ideas? thanks!

hmmmm..I have an '08 and haven't noticed this. Have you been driving a while before this happens or does this seem to happen shortly after starting the X and driving away then coming to a stop?

Compared to my first gen X, the ABS self-test complete "clunk" noise you get in the Next gens is a little different. In my '02 X it was very consistent and happened right away. In my '08 it seems to take longer to occur and isn't quite as loud. Just curious if this is what you are hearing

no, it doesnt happen right away. maybe after 15 min or so. but its not loud at all, and does not happen that much. well not much for only have the vehicle for 2 days :)

if in doubt take that mofo back to the stealership and ask them what is wrong...... i hope its nothing major

I have an especially annoying clunk that happens while driving. Seems most prevalent in Over Drive. At certain speeds if you let off the throttle then accelerate again you will hear this weird clunking noise. You cant miss it. When passengers in my X can hear it I know it's bad.

All that leading up to this: Sometimes when I'm braking and coming to a stop I hear the exact same noise but very faint. I'm curious if this is the same issue.

Check to see if you get this other clunk also. It doesn't happen at all speeds but is common among next gens as far as I can tell. Since you have only had the X a couple of days you may not ave noticed it yet. Also, I have the off road package and it may be related to the rear locker I have. In that case you might not hear it.

Take it back to the dealer and let them deal with it. It is not your problem.

It's play in the drivetrain. I think it comes as a factory standard option.

LOL...yea, I hate it when the factory adds options I DON'T want! :)
