My car didn't come with an owner's manual, so I have no clue what type of oil to put in it, synthetic or not etc.

Put some synthetic in there. Our engines like Mobil 1.

Usually, the switch to synthetic is made at 30K

Is there any specific type of synthetic? Like 5W30 or is that just for regular oil. I've never dealt with synthetics before.

The thing that I have heard about Royal Purple is that it has some detergent in it that can have an acidic effect. I DO know plenty of people who are running that though. In fact, I am about to do an oil change on my X. I think I will try the Mobil 1 filter and the Royal purple oil.

I like finding out for myself.

I think 5W-30 would be a better range for you Robbie.

I run Royal Purple 5W-30 with the Mobil1 or K&N filter and the X is running great....

I'm thinking of putting synthetic oil in on my next oil change (about 2,000 miles). When I bought it, the dealership changed the oil with Castol GTX regular 5W-30. (It's currently got 107,000 miles on it.)

Anyone had any problems with synthetics in their 100,000+ mile motors? I've heard that once they run past that point, synthetics tend to slide out of every little orifice the motor has, whereas dino oil doesn't. Thoughts?

NOT THE CASE
common misconception that stems from the fact that origionally full synthetic did not have swelling agents(which dino oil dosent need) so when the motor was running the seals wouldnt swell, therefore didnt seal well, thus swelling agents fixed this issue, if you put full syn in your motor and oil leaks, its bc you had bad seals and the syn cleaned the gunk that kept them sealed

mine is at 132XXX and it has ran mobile1 synthetic for almost a year.... with no leaks.....

Thanks for the info, Ricer. I'm very much a believer in synthetic fluids. Used 'em in many of my rigs, however, none had over 100k on the odometer. Guess I'll be using it since my motor doesn't leak.

Now, which brand to put in it.....

The debate continues.

redline is the best motor oil you can use
amsoil comes next
followed by royal purple and mobil 1 and all other "autozone" shelved full syn's
