Considering making a set. Is it structurally possible without an aftermarket bumper? I know some jeeps use brackets sandwiched in certain places. I know some of you have them, but the key prob. for me will be not having the bumper to anchor to.......

Any ideas? Is it possible at all under the circumstances?

I honestly haven't even gone out to look myself just yet, but figured I'd go ahead and post.

Thanks folks :)

The steel cables on the front are limb risers. Used to direct limbs and brush up and away from the windshield.

Heres a link to the jeeps without the bumper:

yeah i did a search on it right after you posted.... LOL i bet it could be done you would need to make some modifications here and there.... it proab wouldn't be a bad idea if you wheel where there is alot of low lying branches and stuff.....

I have seen 2 xterras with them but I think they both had aftermarket bumpers. I don't see why it couldn't be done but I would think it would either involve drilling into your hood for the front mounts or fabricating some sort of mount from the bumper to hood level for the risers to tie into.

If you do something like that, definitely post some pics because a lot of wheeling areas here where I live were mainly run by atv's so the limbs are very low hanging and the pine tree pinstriping is getting old so I would definitely be interested in doing something like that myself.

that would be pretty cool to do, I also wouldnt mind having that rack with the lights...doubt its in my budget haha

Yeah Drake I thought about that. I really don't want to drill in any visible areas. Its just not that important to me. The jeep brackets is what sparks my interest. I wonder if theres a way to fab a bracket that fit inbetween the hood and fender. Ya know, in that little gap. IDK, just a thought.......

I don't know how I missed those jeep pics before I posted... that would've helped me too. hah!

I wonder if you could fab something up by using rubber strapping (same concept as bungee cords but a solid rubber strip)? Have an eye bolt on the bumper or hidden between the gap in the bumper and grill to hook one end to, then the rubber strap comes up the grill over the hood and your risers tie into it from there to the rack. That way the only part touching your grill and hood is the rubber strap.

Kyle, pop open the hood, you should see a few 10 MM bolts up front along the inner fender. One of them threads into a captive nut, and the other will support the headlight. (not sure if it is the same for 00-01) but I think that you could use that as a good mounting point for bracket manufacturing. As far as the brackets go, you are going to have to use something thin. Keep in mind, whatever hardware you use for the limb risers, you are going to have to remove before opening your hood. For this I would go with a shackle with a non threaded clevis and a latch pin. Make sure that you get a good crimp on the wires. The brackets should have good stuctural integrity and awesome tensile strength. Also plasticity should be kept in mind. The elasticity of the the chosen material is imperative.

Sorry, my architect side is coming out.

Ill take a look at that in a few James. As far as opening the hood goes, my plan is to make the brackets shaped in a way that I could still open her up if need be. Time will tell............
