: Does this sound right
Lucky_lefty 02-18-2011, 08:47 PM I am mounting my antenna on the bumper, I am looking for a quick connect so when off roading I can slap one on there and and when done or when I get to work I can remove it. I dont think it would last a night at work, someone would try to take it. I would like a 2 ft antenna if possible, and I have a few questions. Will a firestic work with any quick connect? I am on amazon looking for items But I am not sure what I need I have a CB.
this is what I am looking at

and what ever coaxel cable I can find.
Cyclemut 02-18-2011, 11:20 PM I had this one:
http://www.amazon.com/FireStik-K-1A-Push-n-Twist-quick-disconnect/dp/tech-data/B000UTQUAK
but it didn't work well with the Firestick that I had. It eventually ended up breaking off, just by going down the road.
I'd look to put it on permanently. You might think it would get stolen, but really, nobody is really looking around for a CB ant to steal. And unless they're walking around with tools in their pocket, they won't have the wrenches to pull it apart.
Plus, the more solid you're mounted to your ground plane, the better it will perform and easier to tune. You'll appreciate the difference when you can talk further out than others around you.
Xterra Mike 02-19-2011, 07:41 AM Yea i would go with a solid mount antenna. If your afraid of it getting stolen then just grab a wrench and take it off when your not wheeling. takes about 15 seconds to take off with wrenches.

Really? didnt know that.
Lucky_lefty 04-27-2011, 07:33 PM ok so its time for the install, I am planning on doing a perm mount, all I have is the radio, what exactly do I need a 2ft antenna? what type of cable? and connectors? there is no truck stop in my area so I guess I will be buying it from amazon since there is isnt alot of options for me.
Lucky_lefty 05-15-2011, 08:42 PM New Update
since my bumper might not show up in time what can I do for a temp setup? I am thinking hook up the power to the cig lighter somehow and a short magnetic antenna on top. I am looking for it to work on the cheap since when I get the bumper I will pern mount it.
what do you think???????????????
Cyclemut 05-15-2011, 08:51 PM A mag mount stuck on your roof as high as you can get it will still work OK. A quicky tune on the ant will be good and you can re-tune after you get the bumper on.

Cyclemut 05-15-2011, 08:58 PM Yep. Ran one for years, always planning on a permanent mount, never did.

drbandkgb 05-16-2011, 02:13 PM PS they make quick disconnects for the antenna too
daegurth 05-16-2011, 04:08 PM I tied the power for my CB into the cig lighter connector. I never used it for anything, so I removed it completly (regreting that now). Clamped on small blades that fit into the power harness and was good to go.
Lucky_lefty 05-16-2011, 06:44 PM I went to radio shack and bought the cig plug and its for12 volts and 10amps and the radio it doesnt say what the amps are but 13.8watts

rjr162 05-16-2011, 07:42 PM Watts / voltage = amps :)
So 13.8 Watts / 12 volts = somewhere around 1.1 amps

Lucky_lefty 05-16-2011, 07:43 PM is 10 amps ok or will it pop the fuse? should I get the 2 or 3 amp plug?
rjr162 05-16-2011, 07:52 PM That's just what the plug can handle, not what it will pull. Think of it as an "up to 10 amps", just like the fig socket is rated for. Its the device you wire up to the plug that will determine if the fuse pops or not :)

Lucky_lefty 05-16-2011, 07:56 PM ok, thanks I was worried, now I am not. the guy at Radio shack said it will keep popping the fuse .
