I have replaced my front speakers with a pair of Infinity separates powered by a small alpine amp. I have my alpine head unit running my rear 6x9's. I haven't started yet, but I wanted to see if the experts here could give me some guidance on putting new 6x9's in.

thanks in advance.

The 6x9's in the rear are fairly simple. I did it myself not too long ago and it was very straight forward.
-When you open up your door in the rear you will first unscrew the liner that sits on top of the carpet. Its a plastic piece that sits right under the door when its closed.
-After that you will look for about 3-4 screws on each side on the plastic molding to unscrew so your plastic molding will pop off. From there you will see where your speakers are mounted.
-Unscrew the speaks from the housing and unplug them from the connector. If you plan to still keep your front deck powering those then just clip the wires from the connector and use the +/- from that to wire up your speaker. Then reassemble it and your done. Hopefully that kinda makes sense.

when I installed my 6.5" in the front, i stripped the wires to connect them to the aftermarket speakers. It didn't seem to matter which wire I connected to which terminal. Should it have mattered?! I'm about to install my 6x9 Boston Acoustics in the rear and figured it will be easier to do it right the first time than have to pop off the plastic panels more than once.

Also, There's a crackly sound coming from one of the 6.5" speakers that I installed about a week ago. The speaker isn't blown. What else could cause this? I was only able to fasten the speaker to the door with 2 bolts because of the hole spacing. Maybe it has loosened itself?

As I learned installing my speakers last weekend - solid color wires are positive, the wires with the colored stripe are negative -that's for factory wiring. Reversing the polarity could damage your speakers, though you will still hear sound.

The 6x9's in the rear were very easy. I actually tore off the factory plug from the factory speakers and soldered the new speaker wire to that, zip tied and plugged in with those. But in front I soldered since the connectors were built into the speaker.

This is on an 04.

THE BEST THING TO DO IF UR RUNNING AN AMP:

Run all the wiring from the amp to the front...then use the existing wiring that running to it and just attatch it to that..

does that make sense?

You definately want to have the positive and negative hooked up correctly. It will affect the sound from the speaker and as ODiN said it may damage them. If you have a multimeter you and turn the radio on ant test them to see which one is positive and which is negative. Another trick I learned was once you take the old speaker out and clip off the connector leave a little wire on the connector and touch the wires to the positve and negative terminals of a 9V or any small battery. If you touch the positve wire to the positve terminal the speaker cone will puch out if it's reversed it will pull in.

as a general rule of thumb, is the black wire usually the ground and the lighter one "+"? because thats how i have it hooked up.
