If you're willing to do the melt mod:

Then you can fit 285/75r16, which is a 33"

If You do a search on the forum You will find a lot of post on this subject I have a bone stock X and ride with 17x9 268/70/17 I dont have rub or problems. I believe You may be able to go 285s but You may have to melt and reshape some plastic in the front inner wheel well

32s are the stock size on a 2nd Gen X... just go w/ the 33's!! It looks damn good and doesn't take long to get them to fit!

What do you think the determining factor is?

Putting 33s on and seeing if they rub

i beleive it was something that was mostly on the earlier years like the 05-08's it was just on some models... not sure on the specifics... maybe read through the melt mod write up then go look at your truck to see if the hump is in the wheel well

I never understood that hump. I had it on my 2006 Fronty

Hate to thread jack but will 285/75/16 fit on stock 2011 aluminum rims?

Ive been thinkin of goin with a 285/60/R18 tire on 18" rims....31.5"

This would make for a pretty nice street look

yes 33's will fit on a stock rim. Melt mod may not be required for them though but it all depends on the truck. I had to melt mine even with my 5" lift but I also have the Pro Comp 7089 wheels but I still get some rub at full wheel lock but its manageable.

Just to provide some context here:

265/75/16's are a stock size...they are roughly the same as a 32x10.5/16

The 285/75/16's are roughly the same as a 33x11.5/16 tire...just a little bigger than stock.

The melt mod is to address a stupid plastic bump, in the rear of the front wheel well liners, on some 2005+ X's.

There is nothing behind the bump...its just an odd plastic mold protrusion...

The mod merely involves shrinking the plastic back with a hairdryer or heat gun...so the liner is flat there, and there's no rub.

If you let it rub, the tire simply trims off the same high spot for you anyway....no big deal either way, as it hurts nothing. It merely makes some extra noise for a while.
