Hi All,

I have a 2000 4x4 and the 4-wheel drive doesn't function properly. The light goes on and I can feel it engage when I use the shifter but it clearly doesn't work like it used to. In mud, light snow, heavy snow - whatever - I fishtail, or have trouble even doing something simple like reversing. Before I pay Nissan just to diagnose it, wondering if anyone has any ideas or has had this trouble before.

Thanks!!

FIRST OFF
have you put the truck on jack stands to see if 4wd turns the front wheels at all?
that should be your first task in trouble shooting

if it dosent you need to see where it stops at
dose the front driveshaft turn?
if so, do the cv axles turn?

if you front driveshaft does NOT turn, the problem is most likely your transfer case

but start simple, and get it in the air(all 4 tires off the ground)
put it in 4wd and see what happens

btw for all you 4x4 peeps, you are supposed to use 4wd at least 10nmiles every month, or your shiz will stop working

I suggest you give the hubs a cleanup and lube the parts with a THIN smear of grease. If that doesn't work then some more troubleshooting is in order.
