: traction control?
xterra hines 01-23-2008, 01:42 PM im not sure about the 1st generation but i have a 2nd. and when ever i try to peel out the traction control or whatever kicks in and rpms lower. is there a way to disable this? its quite annoying but its safe. so how would i take this out? if i can.
json3904 01-23-2008, 01:48 PM i think there is a switch or something that you can mess with..... i have a 1st gen and they didn't put it on my year model so I'm really not familiar with it....
Ricer-X 01-23-2008, 02:32 PM there has got to be a toggle switch, i know peeps run thru the mud with these things
XterraVT 01-23-2008, 04:37 PM There is a "VDC Off" toggle next to your 4WD switch.
From my experience the VDC Off will not disable the "Slip" function which is what you are feeling. I've only noticed this while wheeling but when I am in 4Lo the VDC is turned Off and if I happen to slip the "Slip" light flashes and the rpms drop and the X tries to gain traction by slowing down the slipping tires and giving power to the others.
I've read around and haven't scene anything about turning it off but I have yet to reach the end of the Internet so there might be a way to do it.

xterra hines 01-23-2008, 07:14 PM ya i sure hope i find out how because its really annoying. i try to pell out and it doesn't let me. i have 2wd
k1w1t1m 01-24-2008, 10:48 AM Can't help for the 2wd but the 4wds have a VDC off switch.
XterraVT 01-24-2008, 05:19 PM Sorry but why do you want to Peel Out?
Why would one want to short'n the life span of a set of tires?
I have a set of BFG A/T KOs and I would have to have some crazy expendable income to want to do burn outs and buy tires every week.
Do what you want but I would rather have the tires last 40,000 miles and spend the Burn Out savings on Wheeling Mods.
Just my 2 pennies

json3904 01-24-2008, 05:44 PM same here...... dearch burn out there has been a couple of threads on the subject.... LOL
Radney711 01-25-2008, 11:21 AM I have a 07 2wd and the vdc switch is to the right of where the 4wd would normally be. I had the same thing happen going through some mud but it was fine when i turned it off.
xterra hines 01-25-2008, 09:27 PM i know that it burns tires, but i do not try to peel out on street, i do it on dirt. so it doesn,t damage them as much, thanks for the help
laursxterra 01-26-2008, 06:25 AM :thumbsup-big: just hold your foot on the brake and gas it , my b/f did that and smoked the tire with a set of bfg ko's
json3904 01-26-2008, 10:12 AM hey laura the 1st gens didnt have the VDC that he is having a problem with.....
jmalone7us 01-31-2008, 02:38 PM Can anyone tell me what good a 4 wheel drive vehicle is that quits giving power to a wheel that spins? I'm so tired of the damn slip light! I just bought my 07 Xterra a month ago and have already got stuck once in mud and had to turn around two other times cause I was about to get stuck again! This was just driving around on my farm! If I knew the 4 wheel drive was like that I never would have bought it. If you're in 4 low all 4 wheels should lock and go just about anywhere you want! I had a 99 explorer for 6 years and never once came close to getting stuck. That was a true 4 wheel drive, not sure what to call this, but it damn sure isn't a 4 wheel drive! I'm extreamly disappointed in this aspect of the Xterra! Is this a problem anyone else has delt with and is there anyway to solve this problem? Or is my 4 wheel drive just screwed up?
json3904 01-31-2008, 04:36 PM the only time all wheels will lock together is if you have a locker...... and that my friend is with any 4x4.... the newer ones that are controled distribute the power when it senses one sliping..... unless like i previously stated you have a locker in the front and rear...... my i ask you what kind of tires you are running ( stock ) and what kind you were running on the ford??????
Radney711 02-14-2008, 10:46 AM Ha Ha thats funny!!!
cynicroute 02-19-2008, 12:48 PM I'm still hung up on the peel outs. Apart from compensating, is there any practical reason?
jman2000 04-05-2008, 12:50 PM ithought there was an on/off switch. I got a rental car and went to a parking lot and burned out a few times. Rental people had no idea.
cbzdel 04-10-2008, 09:46 PM how old is this guy?? I know my X can burn out, I did it once when I bought it just to see how fast it was off the line... but stop doing burnouts in mommy and daddys X and go do your home work or mow the lawn or go to work and make me some fries... Something other that doing burnouts... Please!!!
jman2000 04-10-2008, 10:23 PM I am not gonna burn out in my X because tires are expensive and I can't hardly afford them when I need them much less when I waste them. I'm sick of this thread.
xterra hines 04-11-2008, 12:21 AM its my car and i can do what i wish to do with it. its not yours so you dont have to worry
