: keyless entry
keneyb 03-06-2006, 05:25 PM Does any one know how to program a remote control, (keyless entry). The guy I puchased this from gave me some instructions, but I don't think that they are right, do to the fact that this is all he sells, please let me know the dealer wants money for this because I didnt buy it from them.
Ricer-X 03-08-2006, 11:13 AM i called the dealer, they told me to swing by and they'd do it for free. they told me they dont give out such info, i can appreciate why. it will only take them like 5min to do it. i say just stop by the dealer.
keneyb 03-08-2006, 05:47 PM Thanks for the reply. I ended up sending off for it for $3 bucks it it seems to be a big secrete. The first person I got it from left out one important detail, which is some models you may have to unlock the doors, instead of locking the doors.
so if anyone else that has one (a 2002) her is the big secrete it worked
Nissan
1. Obtain all remote transmitters
2. Close all doors. Note: On some years/models you may have to “close and lock” all doors.
3. Insert and remove key from the ignition switch more than 6 times within 10 seconds.
4. Indictors will flash twice. (Hazard warning lights – turn signal indicators on dash)
5. Insert key into the ignition switch and turn to the ACC position.
6. Press any button on the first remote transmitter to be programmed.
7. Indicators will flash twice to confirm programming.
8. Oldest remote transmitter code is now erased.
9. To program next remote transmitter:
• Unlock then lock vehicle using the LOCK/UNLOCK switch on the driver’s door control panel (not on the remote).
• Press any button on 2nd remote to be programmed.
• Indicators will flash twice to confirm programming.
• Next oldest remote transmitter code is now erased.
10. Repeat step 9 to program remaining remotes. Up to 4 remote transmitters can be programmed.
11. To exit programming mode, open driver’s door.

ErvSpanks 10-16-2008, 05:22 PM Sorry for reviving such a dead thread, BUT I got questions. I picked up a nissan remote because the X didn't come with one when we purchased her, and my wife wanted it, I could care less never had such luxury on any auto of mine why start now.
So anyway, got the remote w/o programming instructions, found the ones above after a search, tried said instructions and I get no response from the X, i.e. no flashing lights. Is it a different sequence for an '01?
For a bit more back story, the original owner had a viper system installed on the X, but at trade in decided to take the brain of the system out, left the guts and key remotes behind. Could this be my problem? has the factory system been disconnected in some fashion so as not to inter fear with the viper system that is no longer there?
Any response would be wonderful, helpful ones would be even better. My ext step maybe to head over to a alarm shop and see if I can just buy a replacement brain for the viper system. Anything to make my wife happy. She gets her mods, I get mine.
Thanks.
Jdubbau02 10-16-2008, 05:52 PM yea if he had a viper in there id say that he probably gutted the stock system before he put the viper in and if the brain to the viper is gone the obviously it wont work. umm farmerehsan has researched car alarms alot so he could probably help you out shoot him a pm if you dont get any helpful answers
ErvSpanks 10-16-2008, 05:58 PM Thanks, i just tried it one more time, a bit slower with the key and bingo we got keyless entry! Thanks for the reply.
attaji123 11-21-2008, 12:30 AM Ok guys I'm new to th forum and have a question. Can i buy an aftermarket keyless remote and program it with my 01 xterra or do i have to buy one that was made for it? thanks.

Any good alarm shop can replace the "brain."
Should be just a plug in chip.
My guy upgrades factory crap by installing a new direct plug in control.

I can't answer this definatively but I think it would be safer to buy a Nissan fob off ebay unless you can get something in writting stating the aftermarket fob will work.
twest2006 11-21-2008, 08:24 AM u guys have geat nissan dealerships around you. our's suck they told me to replace my remote, and i was very clear that all i needed was a remote, would be over $200. that almost sent me into a rage. we got a place that will replace my remote system with a viper and remote start for cheaper than that.

If your Xterra has power doors then you can buy a aftermarket remote system. I bought a Python from Circuit City and had them install it. Took them about 4 hours to install and was definitely worth it since when I bought my 01 Xterra it didn't come with keyless entry and I wasn't going to have another vehicle without it.
buckethead47 11-21-2008, 11:32 AM my local electronics shop wanted 300 for remote lock and power start. so 200 for just the remote is ridiculous and if i take my x wheeling will it hurt any of these components?

mikeman1985 11-29-2008, 10:22 AM Man am I glad I found this post...
I bought my 2001 X in june, second owner... did not come with a remote, and I didn't even know for sure it had key less ability... I suspected it did, because it has the leather package and theres power locks and a security light on the dash.
Now that I read the programming instructions from this thread I go out there and do the key thing 6 times, and viola i get the two flashes, meaning the system is there, all I need is the remote.
So I jumped straight over to ebay and ordered a remote...
I can't tell you how much I wanted this... it's very annoying to get out and lock it, and oh somebody for got something, and now I have to go back put the key in and un-lock it for them.... so much easier with a remote.
Ehsan 11-29-2008, 02:02 PM if u have no power doors.. its a bitch puttin in the actuators...ive done this on my truck...its took forever
soulsaege 01-22-2010, 10:46 PM if u have no power doors.. its a bitch puttin in the actuators...ive done this on my truck...its took forever
so then it can be done? i have the base xe model with no power windows or locks, and i want to put auto locks and keyless entry on mine. any help? links, info, anything.
dustoff 02-10-2010, 07:25 AM My '01 does everything except the light flash when you unlock. I've reprogrammed the remote a couple of times but still no flashing when you hit the unlock button. Maybe its just the '01. anybody know different?
AmazinglyGraceless 02-10-2010, 08:56 AM Another remote question...
Bought my 2007 X in the summer. Only feature it didn't have was remote keyless entry. My X has power everything (windows, door locks) and cruise control and 4x4 and it has the alarm already on it (the icon in the dash with the car with the key in the middle of it), so I searched for how to check to see if my X has remote keyless entry. Did the key pull trick multiple times using all 3 keys that came with my X. Nothing. Did it with the locks unlocked and locked.
Friend of my sister's works at a Nissan dealer in Memphis and said he'd program a fob for me for no charge if I buy the fob at his cost (about $60) from the Nissan dealership he works at which is not a problem. He said most, if not all models of Xterras esp the newer ones, have the keyless entry system on it if the truck has power locks, which is does.
My questions in this rambling post are this - If he programs the fobkey for me and it doesn't work, how easy is it to put in a remote entry system and what about a ballpark estimate for it? And secondly, is he right in saying that most, if not all, X's with the auto locks have remote entry already on them, but just need to be programmed? I am spoiled from my stupid Saturn in that it had remote entry until all the locks seized up and I couldn't lock the darn thing, but it was a Saturn and no one in their right mind would steal it. I couldn't get that lucky.
I do NOT want to go to some place like Bob's Auto Mart and get some 3rd party entry system on my X. If I'm gonna put keyless entry on my X, it's gonna be Nissan parts only. Ruthie (my X) has to last me the next 40 years.
rjr162 02-15-2010, 09:58 AM Yes, adding aftermarket actuators can be done. I've done this install on countless cars. I will warn you any of the newer ones that have cable driven door locks as opposed to rod driven are a more difficult install. They make kits for the cable driven that hold the outside of the cable cover in place on both sides of a cut you have to make, and then allow you to attach the rod from the actuator to the actual cable inside. I tend to find other ways to attach it as the outside shield of the cable is protected by metal and it's very possible to cut the inner cable while trying to remove the outer shield. The one 2008 Frontier I did was setup like this but I was able to attach the aftermarket rod to the actual door lock lever at the handle.<br><br>
Other than that installing actuators isn't really difficult, a little time consuming. It also depends if the door harness has a plug where it enters the door or door jam. If the "boot" doesn't, you just slip the wires thru, if it does you have to find a way to get it past. Either drill out an empty pin or try to slip it by the plug. Make sure it doesn't get hung up, and you have enough slack the wire can move. Otherwise opening and closing the door will end up pinching or snapping the wire over time.
truckrnnr68 01-01-2012, 10:43 AM got a question,i have a keyless remote for my 2006 xterra and it still works but when you lock it now the horn no longer beeps but the horn works and the lights wont flash or come on when you unlock it.
does anyone have any ideas on this and this is happening on both remotes
thanks
AaronsX 01-01-2012, 11:39 AM You have turned off the locked signal...I think on my 2000X that is done by holding the lock button..Just check the owners manual it will tell you how to reverse it.
