I'm looking at different suspension kits, and this one seems like a pretty decent setup. Anyone have any experience with this, or a better suggestion? I do want something that is FUNCTIONAL, not just for looks.

I am considering this, with a 2" BL, which I believe will be sufficient for 33's. I don't want to bottom out, so if this setup is not going to work, please fill me in.

u can do the melt mod and run 33's stock so with a 2inch BL u should have little prob running 34's ! With that suspension n BL u could proly get away with runnin 35's but ima 1st gen guy so idk alot about 2nds but the melt mod can for sure run 33's !

I would go with the PRG kit if you plan to spend that kind of cash.

Some Clarifications:

1) 33's fit a stock 2005-2011 Xterra, with no BL or SL. (The 2000 - 2004's need a BL to be able to take full advantage of 33's - your wells are larger though)

2) PRG's kit is pretty much the way to go, fewer problems overall.

3) You can mix and match, and get the Rear Revolvers, etc, and add that to make it your own creation instead of off the shelf. Rook here for example did that, and he's essentially ecstatic.

Thanx for the info everyone. The PRG kit didn't seem as complete, but I guess it's just missing the revolvers.

How much of an improvement would a high speed compression kit make? Would that be a big improvement, or are the urethane bump stops sufficient?

Urethane should be fine just add the prg shackles to the kit and you good to go.

LOL

Are you going for Crawler, or Baja?

If you plan on off roading in lo and slow, and/or street, etc...the regular stops work fine.

If you plan on high speed landings a la Dukes of Hazard, etc...well, the high speed compression stuff starts to make more sense.

If cost is no object, either is cool.

:D

Adding the Revolvers does add a huge amount of rear articulation...but, specing shocks to take advantage of their full potential is - so far - hard to do.

So - a lot depends upon HOW hard you plan to use it, and what the extra travel is worth to you.

I have a 2001 X, so my specs are different that for a 2005+ X, but I saw on Rook's X for example that the stock shock MOUNTS are not going to work, IF you want FULL articulation...

...The conundrum is that finding a shock that can extend LONG enough AND compress SHORT enough, is very tough.

LONG enough is easier...plenty of choices.

When you want to use your UPTRAVEL, and be able to stuff a rear tire for stability, etc...the shock body that is long enough to house a long enough piston rod, is too long to allow full compression of the suspension.

To over come that, the geometry needs to be altered, so the shock can be leaned over at more of an angle, to allow more potential travel room...

...and THAT means that the VALVING that worked at the oem 20º or so angle will be INADEQUATE if at a more obtuse angle.

IE: Its a PITA to work out PROPERLY.

I have the Revolvers, and the performance has allowed me to go places I would never be able to get through with my old regular lift shackles...it makes that much of a difference.

I don't think revolver shackles on a 2nd gen are possible without relocating shock mounts or running limiting straps. If you really interested in running revolvers then I suggest a 2" body lift so you can get more room to relocate the mounts for longer shocks.

dude, if you're gonna spend that kind of money than go for a Titan Swap and be done with it :)
Just saying :)
