Bored in the garage last week... Whipped up a ski bike from an old full suspension bike I had... Has any one else on here built one? I based mine on the lenz-sport launch with a few cheaper mods lol

That looks cool. I'd never use it, but it's still pretty neat.

There's tons of snow here. How are you gonna ride it? Boarding and skiing is gonna be easier and more fun because there's no real equipment to haul around. What happens when you catch an edge and the thing catapults into the air and lands on your head?

Sorry I didnt realize there was snow in LA...haha No equipment involved just the bike. And it fits on a chairlift no problem- they rent them out at most resorts in oregon. As far as fun goes it was fun for me to ride its just whether you like it or not-like anything else... And If you catch an edge its no different than a snowboard or skis... Ive done them all and no matter what you are riding you can land on your head lol there are tons of vids on youtube and stuff that show what a blast these things are.

I've never seen one of those before - looks awesome! How's the strength of that mount on the rear ski though? Looks like you'll be putting a lot of stress on that front mount - should it be triangulated?

Its all sturdy so far haha the front is way sturdy and I did an offset triangle because when the bike is lifted into an "endo" position (handlebars are directly above the ski mount) the ski remains parallel with the ground. The rear mount has gussets on both sides with tiny 1/4" thick triangles. I wrecked it a few times and flipped it and everything is still straight so its good so far! A better rear shock would be nice tho...
This vid shows what im talking about with the front mount... start it around 3:58 and it will show you the offset triangle tilting... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RPZYcy-BBM

I think they are very cool.

It reminds me of the old wooden Burton snowboard days. They wouldn't let us on the mountains, because they said they were unsafe, and they thought we were all stupid for wanting to ride them on the ski slopes. We had to fight them for a long time, till they started to let us on the lifts. Now look at the huge industry that it is today, and they also told us it would never catch on, lol.

That looks pretty nice man, makes me want to throw one together. The mountain biker in me would constantly be trying to pedal/back pedal to change my weight distribution though, hah.

Yeah it was kinda wierd to get used to but once you get the hang of it you can pretty much carve it like a snowboard. I support your idea to build one hahaha I have a ton of pics from when I built it so if you have any ?'s let me know. It only cost me about $50 for everything-skis, hardware, flatstock, and paint. (minus the bike and 1" square tubing- I already had those) and took me a little over a day.

Those are awesome... super fun to ride.. and im not much of a biker either

Already did haha thats how I took it up to the mountain the other day. It fits in my snowbard rack nicely if I move the 2 crossbars further apart on the rooftop. Then I just used some ratchet straps from the sides of the roof rack to the handlebars and it rode up there for 2 1/2 hours no problem.
