: exhaust/headers
njxterra07 01-20-2008, 07:40 PM hey guys. i was reading some posts on the exhausts and i was wondering what everybody else has installed. i was looking at the magnaflows, and gibson.
i was also dwelling into installing headers as well. just tryin to get a feel as to what everybody likes.
thanks for your time and help.
(this is what i would like to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4IJ1_sNXSY) :mocking:
Anthony 01-20-2008, 08:00 PM That's Scott's truck and it sounds even better in person than it does on video. He really likes having the headers.
Personally, I'm ok without, but eventually I'm sure I'll go that route. Once everything else on the truck is done.
My suggestion is just keep the stock exhaust, get a good intake or K+N filter, and replace the stock muffler. Gibson, Flowmaster, whatever. Anything is better than that GIANT and restrictive stock muffler.
njxterra07 01-20-2008, 08:34 PM haha you know that guy who owns that xterra? wow thats cool. my friends thought it was some muscle car when i was watching the vid. they wouldnt believe me till they saw the vid themselves.
k1w1t1m 01-21-2008, 08:59 AM Just as an FYI the truck you are listening to is a 1st Gen. From your sig you have a 2nd Gen and pretty much nothing is the same between Gens except the name.
njxterra07 01-21-2008, 09:07 AM well i know that the engines were changed among other things. but i sitll thought his Xterra sounded nice so i posted what i would like mine to sound sorta like.
(i guess i should do more research on things before posting.)

That's not what Tim was suggesting. He was just simply trying to make you aware if you did not know. Nobody on this board is a bully.
I believe that the mods are getting there for the second gen. and you will be able to sound like that too.
json3904 01-21-2008, 09:15 AM yeah the 2nd gen starts 05+ and from what anthony said there is going to be a new design for the 09 model... cant wait to see it.... LOL
njxterra07 01-21-2008, 09:37 AM i didnt even know his was a first gen i just love the sound of his truck (honestly didnt pay attention to much else). and i wasnt trying to make him sound like a bully. that was just a side note that i have a lot more to cover. i thank you guys for your insight and knowledge.
sorry if i came off abit rash i didnt mean it at all.
Ricer-X 01-21-2008, 09:40 AM I AM A BULLY!!!
j/k
json3904 01-21-2008, 10:50 AM im going to be a bully now that someone tried to steal my shiz.......LOL
k1w1t1m 01-21-2008, 01:29 PM Sorry if my post came across the wrong way, that certainly wasn't my intention and it looks like it's all been sorted out now.
You will find some good sound clips on www.clubfrontier.org (http://www.clubfrontier.org) (once again be careful of 1st/2nd gens) and www.thenewx.org (http://www.thenewx.org).
When and if you do your mods make sure you post them here too. I like this site and want to see it grow.
njxterra07 01-21-2008, 02:01 PM ok cool
thanks for the web sites.
ill be sure to post my mods that ive done already.
XterraVT 01-21-2008, 06:04 PM I'm running a Flowmaster Super 40 on my 05 OR.
Sounds Awesome. I just installed the muffler and kept the rest stock. Got the Super 40 for $50 and had it installed for $30 at a local muffler shop in VT.
Maybe down the road I'll spend the money on Stainless.

cwine 03-28-2008, 03:56 PM Hey Shadow, Just curios where you had your exhaust made. It looks like it is mandrel bent and there are very, very few exhaust shops that have that kind of equipment. All the one's I've heard of are on the west coast. I'm going to install headers to get rid of the cats at the end of the manifolds and install a hi flow cat farther down in the exhaust but no one close to me can do mandrel bends because they don't have the equipment. I especially like the looks of the y-pipe and I was just wanting to know where you had it done. Thanks!
SHADOW 03-28-2008, 09:23 PM cwine,
Sorry I haven`t replied sooner.I live on Maui in Hi. and that`s where I had it done.So you`re probably outta luck!
cwine 03-29-2008, 05:44 AM O well doesn't hurt to ask. Exhaust looked good by the way nice smooth curves in the bends.
cbzdel 04-10-2008, 10:02 PM that is a good sounding exhaust!! nice work!!
SHADOW 04-11-2008, 01:24 PM Mahalo!!!!!
skeezer541 04-16-2008, 12:09 PM I have an 06' and I put the Gibson Cat back and was going to get Headers until I found out Nissans Flat rate book says it takes 14 hours to do the headers...One mechanic said they have to drop the motor down to do them.....lets see...headers $350......putting them on $1500.....not,,,,
cbzdel 04-16-2008, 12:26 PM There has to be an easy way around it.. for example with the first gen header installs go alot easier with a BL....do you have a BL or anything on your rig???
doug thorley headers 04-28-2008, 05:14 PM You can install headers in less than 4 hours. You do not even need to loosen the motor mounts. Our headers are a direct bolt on smog legal setup. The headers make a huge difference in mid-top rpm range. The catback will only help if you do the y-pipe also as that is where most of the restriction is.

Is it worth any of the expence?

cbzdel 04-29-2008, 01:04 AM Gary I believe Pacesetter makes a 4cyl header.. I have a notebook at home with a bunch of parts in it, but I will not get home until LATE Wednesday night..
