: SuperCharged Engine Question
tenxsixplus9 10-24-2005, 05:58 PM My wife and I just purchased a 02 X with the supercharged engine. This is the first vehicle we have owned thats supercharged. My question is, should we really be able to feel the supercharger or hear it make a whine? It doesnt feel any different than our 02 Tacoma with the 3.4 V6.
tenxsixplus9 11-06-2005, 09:39 AM Thanks for answering my question guys. Is this how you treat all new members?
Sorry there Tensix I have been pretty busy and we dont have too many members yet. Site is still very new. I dont even own an Xterra so I really cant answer. I own a Titan myself. As far as feeling a difference your 02 Taco had about 190 hp and the 02 xterra with SC has about 210. With the xterra being slightly heavier I believe you probably wont feel much differnce. Now you would really tell a difference in the new 05 Xterras they are pushing 250 hp without an SC. With the improved drive trains in these vehicles the newer versions are very sporty. By the way is yours a 4x2 or 4x4. I have wanted a 4x4 Xterra for a while just cant afford 2 new vehicles at this time.
Welcome to the site by the way.

tenxsixplus9 11-08-2005, 07:32 PM Thanks man. My Xterra is a SE 4x4 S/C. I took it to work and changed all the fluids. It was 2.5 quarts overfilled on oil from the dealership. Runs alot better since putting the right amount of oil. I did notice this past weekend that with a trailer hooked to it with 4 sportbikes, it doesnt even know they are back there. :D
supercharged 11-13-2005, 02:00 PM I have a supercharged 04, and although I have never driven a standard 3.3, I probably wouldn't like it. I had a 94 S-10 blazer with a 4.3 vortec, and the performance seems similar to the s/c. I notice a lot better results in cool weather, but with only 7lbs or so of boost it is not very dramatic, but is still fun to drive. Getting kinda tired of buying 92 octane...I have a 4X4 suburban, and the gas mileage is similar to the Xterra.
Yes, I think the quick lubes cannot accept the 3.5 quart oil capacity, I found mine to be overfilled as well. It's nice to buy a gallon of Mobil 1, and still have some left to change the mower as well........
Just in case you read this,, Does your vehicle turn off at 99.5 mph?
tenxsixplus9 11-13-2005, 05:08 PM Dont know if it shuts off at 99 mph. Havent had it up that far yet. Any good sources for performance parts for the X?
supercharged 11-13-2005, 05:45 PM Hey, I think thats a record for reply time on this site......
As for hi per parts, I will get more into that after my warranty expires
but for the s/c I think it may lie in a chip or some reprograming, Make sure you are getting plenty of intake air. If you haven't already you might want to invest 40$ in a K&N washable element, not saying that it helps that much but I was changing my paper ones quite often
tenxsixplus9 11-16-2005, 04:57 AM When we first brought ours home, I checked all the fluids and things and found that it had a K&N in it. Im going to do exhaust on it today since I work at a exhaust shop with a mandrel bender. :D
supercharged 11-19-2005, 08:21 AM Did you modify exhaust? How did it turn out?
Mine has a very noisy walker or something, I showed it to my exhaust people and asked if he could quiet it down a little without making restriction, and he said he could not improve on the system and to leave it alone
tenxsixplus9 11-19-2005, 03:36 PM I did change some of the exhaust at work the other day. Took the factory 3 foot long muffler off and installed a Flowmaster 70 series and straight pipe on back. No change in sound yet though. I was really wanting SOME exhaust note, but all I hear is WOOSH. Big change in the amount of exhaust pressure though. The factory muffler is a high temp muffler. Thats the reason it is so long and huge.
supercharged 11-19-2005, 04:05 PM Your'e not kidding about the temp, I had no idea how hot that exhaust gets
It has discolored a chrome dual outlet (turned it blue) and I was stupid enough to touch it once..........
tenxsixplus9 11-20-2005, 08:06 AM For some reason the X puts out ALOT of heat all the way back. Raised mine back up in the air a few days after doing the exhaust to check and make sure there was no leaks, and its turning the flowmaster muffler brown on the ends! I wanted to install a 50 series for better sound, but a guy at work that has been doing custom exhaust for over 22 years said the xterra would cook it in a matter of weeks.
tenxsixplus9 12-03-2005, 04:01 PM Well I called Flowmaster yesterday and asked them which one of their mufflers they recommend for my X, and he said to use the 50 series deltaflow. I told him we installed the 70 series, and he said to get it off. 70 series is made for a bigblock chevy/ford engine.
supercharged 12-03-2005, 07:23 PM whats wrong with that, I wonder
