: Coal Creek in February?

OK the southeast section is getting boring with no chatter and everyone was talking about feb for a trip, so who is up for it? Anyone got any suggestions for a date. I'm itching to hit the trails after missing out in october. Maybe snow and mud like last years.

I don't think ill be able to make it this time. I just don't have the money or time

I might be able to make it but not sure since I have train up before Afghanistan. Is it possible to run it stock?

its possible, but be ready for trail damage if you do anything like we did last time that we are up there

There are plenty of trails to run that wouldn't put you in jeopardy of trail damage. That is as long as the trail leader doesn't take you on some trails you aren't prepared for. I've run there many times back when my X was bonestock without issue.

I would be up for a run in February but I've got to wait and see what my work schedule is like. I know there are two shows sometime around then that I may have to work. It also depends on if I'm able to get a lot of my maintenance done before then though. I don't want to get mine on the trails too hard right now because I'm pushing 100K and I want to get my t-belt changed before I resume the punishment. :D

If thats the case then if I'm free I might just ride up there so I can meet some of the guys and then jump in somebody else's rig if they dont have an issue with that

Well I really don't wanna beat up the X and I don't wanna force everybody to run the easier paths if I'm the only one stock

Drake
01-01-2011, 03:43 PM
No worries man. I don't mind leading a stock group if I'm able to go and nobody else wants to. There's a good loop in the southwestern part of the park that is relatively easy in good conditions or really fun when it's wet and muddy. I'll just have to wait and see what work has lined up for me. Like Kelly, that time of year marks the beginning of my busy season.

As of right now I'm clear for any weekend but the 1st weekend of February... but that can change with one phone call but the odds are pretty slim. If we make it the next weekend it could be like my birthday run or something. :D

I'd love to go play on #3 and a few others but I'm thinking I need to pamper my X for a little while until I can get some stuff done to it. Plus I've got a brand new gas tank now and until I get a fuel tank skid, I'd like to keep it in it's original shape. lol So with that said, if there's any beginners or stockers that would prefer to stick to lighter trails, I won't have a problem leading a group. We'll need the modded X's to stick with Dave so somebody can tow his jeep back out when it breaks down. :mocking:

Second week is better for me as well any later and I will struggle to make it.

Pffffttt rumpled is a shape....what's wrong with that shape? :mocking:

Drake
01-02-2011, 08:00 PM
Mine was more like cashew shaped. :D I think I lost about 2 gallons of capacity. When the fuel pump crapped out on me, the tech guys at the dealership said something about it being bashed in that caused it but I had to tell them it had been that way for about 2 years now. I think they were just super pissed that I brought it in completely caked in mud. They probably had to wear splash shields to keep the dirt out of their eyes while they worked on it. :hilarious:

So that is two favoring the 2nd weekend in February. Anybody else good for that?

Hey Kelly, if you are able to go, when do you plan on heading up there? I usually go up the night before and crash at the Motel 8. I would be trying to leave out around 5 p.m. but it will also depend on my "passenger's" schedule and when she will be able to get free. Yeah that's right. Yeah #22 is really long and it would be hard to tow your jeep out that distance. :mocking: (You know I have to haze you right? lol)

I don't mind #22 and unless someone else just wants to, I'll lead the stockers and/or those less inclined to get into some more hairy stuff and take them through that loop down in the southwest. #26, #27, #30 and #31 I think? That seems to be the best route we've found to offer enough of a challenge to those less modified/experienced but still be safe enough to not get body damage and stuff.

Now if the stocker group prefers to get into something harder, I'll be glad to hit #3 and #4 but I won't guarantee you won't go home with some friendly reminders of Coal Creek. :D

Also, we need to know who has cb's or two-ways for the groups. Very important to keep a good order to keep everybody safe and together.

Dropping the front diff isn't really difficult, besides maneuvering it out, try and have help doing it. I dropped mine on my friends chest when we were doing my diff drop bushings. It kept getting hung up on one of the front brackets trying to use the floor jack to get it out so he got underneath it while I got it unstuck, which happened when he wasn't ready for it. All of the bolts are fairly easy to get to (axles, driveshaft and 4 diff mounts), the toughest part is probably doing all the maneuvering to get it back in and fighting with the front axles at the same time.

I keep bouncing between winch in whats left of the stock bumper or skids...we'll see if either happens.
