I think this concept is cool.

Probably sucks for mpg, etc...but, cool.

I like the ability for lateral movement..

The flotation is #1, amazing...and the ability to turn on a dime, etc, is cool as well.

The way it was able to back up into its own tracks, and hit the same marks in reverse so it looked like one track, was sweet, like a screw going into wood, and then being able to be backed out and re-inserted, etc.

The way is swung out for lateral movement and to act as drag going down hill, etc...on the Russian version was a feature that was missing from the tractor version.

The tractor's simple double chain drive with floating sprockets to allow flex was very innovative.

The Russian version just does the same thing as far as mounting the spindles at the ends of the screws, but sets the drive to pivot from the center as well to allow that lateral movement with a simple twist on the pivot point.

I just got my new Car & Driver. They have an article on the new Bugatti Veryon SS (spelling?) If you own that you can get tires and get screwed. OEM replacement tires (which are the only tire that works with the special rims on the car) are $42,000 for a replacement set that will net you 10,000 miles if you take it easy. After every 3rd set of tires the wheels need to be replaced as well at over $60,000.

The Mythbusters have one of these. I always wondered about it when I saw it on the show...

Show me a cheaper tire that can keep my >2 ton vehicle under control at 270mph without exploding and I'll buy it.

Oh, and I'll also need you to provide me with a Veyron SS.

See the thing is if you can afford that car, you can afford tires for it.
