: Hi, new to the forums and seeking help
luisn17 01-07-2008, 12:02 AM Hi, Really nice forum with alot of information!!
I joined the forums to see if you guys can help me. I will be buying my xterra in about two weeks, I have my baby picked a 2008 knight armor S model but wanted to prepare myself before going in and negociationg the price and making the purchase. I have gone to the dealer for a test drive and we talked about some ballpark numbers.
I'm trying the get a good deal and have no idea where to find the invioce price nor the holdback amount. If any of you can point in the right direction I will really appreciated.
This is my first new car purchase..... I have purchased my current car used but it was for 5,000 bucks and i paid it cash this one will be financed.
The xterra I plan on getting:
2008 knight armor S stock but with the automatic transmission option....what do you guys think it will be a good price for this xterra
nascarjody 01-07-2008, 07:27 AM First welcome to the club. Second Dont be pressured into buying. Shop several different dealers. Dont let them pull your credit till you have the deal you are comfortable with. Where are you located at? If you get me the vin on the vehicle you have chosen I will get with one of my salesmen & see if he can pull that info for me. PM me the vin.

thanks for the welcome and the reply. I will try to go to the dealership on wendesday and was planing on going to the my two nearest ones and see which one was more willing to give a better deal. I live in miami, Fl and for sure once i have the vin number i will PM them to you.
I have not given them any information aside from my name and my cell phone number. I have read online that if you deal with the internet department you are more likely to get a better is this true. Sorry for being such a noob when it comes to car buying....but I guess is part of growing and being 24 is not helping me right now.
Thank you and i really appreciate the help
nascarjody 01-07-2008, 01:46 PM Some times you can get better deals going thru the internet dept. but that is not always true. Make them work for it. If they blow you off then you didnt need to buy from them anyways. Shop around & take your time. I know you can get caught up in the moment but that is when you make a mistake. Also ask them what they are willing to throw in to make the deal sweeter, plastic floor mats, cargo cover, seat covers.
json3904 01-07-2008, 04:16 PM yes bleed the dealer for everything that you can..... good luck.......
S_e_X-Terra 01-07-2008, 05:03 PM If you want the invoice cost, then ask the dealer... Im pretty sure they have to give it to you if you ask.
But on top of the invoice cost the dealer will add all sorts of extra do-dads to jack the price up... pinstripes, vent visors, bug shield, etc. whatever is on the truck that you dont want (and it is removable) get them to take it off the truck, then deduct the price they charge for that item from the price of the vehicle. That should save you a couple of bucks in the end.
Also, a dealer will tell you about all sorts of rebates... then make you think he/she is giving you a better deal, when in fact the dealer isnt giving you a rebate at all, Nissan is!
So here is a situation... a car's MSRP is $27,000 and Nissan is offering $1500 rebate. the dealer will say, alright the MSRP is 27000 and I will knock off 1500 so that makes it 25500 bucks. Well then you start to negotiate from there.... that is a mistake. Its a psycological thing that happens. Tell them you dont want to hear about the rebates untill after you have settled on a fair price. That may not have sounded clear... sorry.
And try to get a price as close to the invoice cost as possible (remember this is before the rebates). You should come out with a truck less than the dealer paid for it if the rebate is good enough!
F150Boss86 01-07-2008, 09:15 PM patience...best advice I was ever given. When first looking I went to lots at night...not pressure from salesmen that way. Then I found an X I liked at looked at the price...they were asking 16300 on the window for an 03 4x4 SE S/C 79k miles. I blue booked the truck...it was 16100. Then I checked auto trader for the book and found they were asking 14100 in there. Ive heard auto trader is usually the lowest price a dealer can go. I checked the dealer website and they had a 1500 rebate on any used purchase. So knowing this info is what i used to be smater then the salesman. Ended up getting the truck for 12600 out the door with a one year warranty and a year of oil changes. So i guess what im getting at is educate yourself way more then the salesman...and remember you can wait on a good deal. The dealer want the sale that day, make em work. good luck
luisn17 01-08-2008, 07:17 AM I contact the internet sales department of one of my local dealership and received this from him not sure how he gets that price but will find out tomorrow. The nissan website has not updated with the january sales so not sure of the sales.
Dear Mr nunez,
I will be here on wendnesday all day, just reply to see when is the best time for you, I can sell a new 2008 Xterra automatic for $19318.00 including destination charge, also have another money saving surprise for you, we go over it at time of visist, let me know when is the best time for you so we can schedule an appointment.
I have to assume this is for a S model since I told him I want an S model. I will keep you guys informed when i go tomorow and find out. I will be patient since I will not buy the Xterra until I start at my new position and get my pay increase which happens by the end of this month. Based on his email how do you guys see the price a good start or not.
Thanks for the advice and help.

luisn17 01-11-2008, 10:12 AM I went to the dealership today of the guy mention above and it went ok. He is willing to give me invoice price minus the rebate and he told the holdback is his. basically i should get this for around 21,200 and less than 23,000 out the door. I did not negotiated to hard with him since I will be buying the xterra later this month. What do you think about this offer? Also he told me is better to take the rebate than the financing special is there an incentive for him I don't take the lower APR that would benefit him

You are right the price he gave me was for an X model which I told him from the start I wanted a S. Did not like that approach from him of giving me a price of one model I did not want to bring me in to the dealership. The surprise is for maintance..... have free oil change for a year and one tire rotation something the dealership gives for a purchase. I will try another dealership to see what the other one tells me.
json3904 01-11-2008, 03:59 PM i wouldnt have them do my oil changes anyways..... do it your self with full synthetic...... good luck...
