Hey guys,

I live in Ohio and we have had pretty cold temperatures here lately (16F to 20F on the average). I noticed that at low temperatures like that my wind fairing is making a clickety noise on the roof. More specifically, it is the rubber seal on the bottom that gets real hard in cold weather, I think. Anybody else gets that? It is kinda annoying...

Also, it takes a while to warm up the engine which, in turn, makes the heater/blower not work well. On my 8 mile commute, I have the the heat on max and the fan on four. My previous cars (civic, mazda 3) were a lot quicker to warm up and stay that way.

Are you guys/girls having similar issues?

I noticed on my '00 Xterra that when it was really cold the heater wasn't that great. I thought it was strange because with the weather a few degrees warmer the heat from the heater would be uncomfortably hot.

I know a lot of people in your area will cut out a piece of cardboard and slide it between the radiator and the condensor. Or, if you want to get fancy, you can cut two pieces that are each half the size of the radiator. You can vary the amount that you overlap the two pieces, which will allow you to cover anywhere from 50-100% of the radiator. I have done this myself on an Audi, and it worked quite well. Please know, however, that you do this at your own risk, and you need to keep an eye on your temp guage to make sure you don't go too far. But, it is effective, and should help your motor reach it's normal op temp, which will make both you and your X much happier.
