Hey there,

Just trying to investigate the uses for a CB radio in my X.

What do you use yours for?

Thanks

My main two uses are for when I'm on the trails to communicate with the group and it also comes in really handy during a traffic jam. I can tune it to 19 and get updates from the truckers ahead of me. Can also be entertaining when driving late at night and hearing some of their "colorful" conversations. :D

As long as you stay behind me or downwind I don't mind. :D

That's the only use I have known. When I was younger an older family friend had one and we strictly used it for entertainment value with truckers, LOL.

Trail comms for those that haven't upgraded to amateur radio and for listening to logging trucks heading down narrow forest service roads cause those crazy mofo's don't move over for no one. Other than that it's off.
When I'm on the road and need traffic info that's where the WSDOT app for iphone comes in handy.

I use mine on the trail, on the way to the trail; any time I’m traveling with a group of vehicles.
A CB is so cheap and easy to install that I can not understand why anyone would not have one.

I find the person on the trail that does not have a working CB in their truck is always a burden on the group.

I also use the PA to move double parked car out of the traffic lane in Brooklyn.

Its for trail communication, and people use the PA to screw around. But you have to buy an external speaker that comes separate from the cb

Sounds good. I think I will be installing one. Possibly this cheap Midland with good reviews http://www.amazon.com/Midland-1001Z-40-Channel-CB-Radio/dp/B00024DIDK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288974706&sr=8-1

Where are you guys installing the head unit? I saw the Cobra model that fits where the ashtray is, but where else can you put one? The armrest console?

That seems to be the best way to install it. Did you use a door jam mount on the back hatch for the whip?

I fabed up my own mount out of an aluminum bracket. Alot of people here just use the door jamb mount from Firestik and it works well. If you look in my build thread you can see my mount.

ive got a monster PA speaker mounted behind the bumper. Fun to use in traffic when people are in convertibles. Also good for tailgating, general annoyance, pumpin your music so others can hear etc etc etc.

It's even more fun when you rigged an input jack into your cobra mic to plug ur iPod directly into it and play Indiana jones going Down the highway:)

So everything I would need is:

CB:

http://www.amazon.com/Midland-1001Z-40-Channel-CB-Radio/dp/B00024DIDK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288911732&sr=8-1

PA:

http://www.amazon.com/Horn-SPEAKER-Plug-Wire-Radio/dp/B002KO63X2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1288991578&sr=1-1

And I am trying to narrow down what antenna and base to get. Having a hard time. I like the idea I saw of one that replaced the existing radio antenna on my X. Can anyone recommend a certain antenna and mount?

I really appreciate the help

If you want to do the in-dash install I did you need that CB.
Ive not messed with the Midland to know if the size is right to work.

X2. It's kind of a PITA when 4 of 5 people do not work. I carry handheld cobras for them though.

I use it to spot people, to talk to others way behind if I make a wrong turn, to call for help, to listen to weather, to chat with others when headed to the trail, etc. It is extremely helpful and I love it.
