Hey-
I'm new to this forum but not to automotive forums. I am a car buff that deals with the refinish industry in southern california. I just aquired a 2003 Xterra that has the 2.4L with the 5 speed manual transmission. I bought the truck for a "song and dance" but it does have some pending issues. I will post them to the tech section but the xterra came up with three problems when I took it to get a smog certification this week. The truck passed visual and emissions, but it failed the functional test. It came up with codes P0335 and P1336. The check engine light is also set to off or not functional. I was pissed to hear this but when i got home I made sense of the problem. I began by looking up the codes. They are both crankshaft postion sensor codes. I called the dealer and I was quoted about $400 plus dollars for it. I quickly realized the previous owner must have had the check engine light shut off because he didn't want to pay for the repair. At least its what I think. The problem is the truck runs fine. I'm not sure why this code would come up, but my problem now is getting it smogged. I lucked out and found someone selling a newly remanufactured distributor for the 2.4L xterra on eBay and I bought it yesterday. I should have the part on saturday afternoon. Can someone scan something like a chilton instruction page on how to remove and replace this? Also, I bought the distributor because the dealer said the CKP sensor came with the distributor as a unit. The next order of business is replacing or connecting the check engine light. I searched threw the forums and I could not find some who actually posted instructions on how to do this for gauge lights or repair. Can someone post a scan of the instructions for this?
I'm looking to do this over the weekend. If you can held it would be greatly appriciated.
Cheers,
