2001 4x4 SE 3.3L V6 Automatic 70,000KM

I took my Xterra into the local shop yesterday to see if they could swap out my transmission and differential oil to Mobil 1 synthetic. When they checked their Big Book of OEM they said no, because Nissan doesn't recommend it. Because of this, they won't take the risk of swapping out the oil.

I'm going to talk to the local dealer and see if they'll do it. I've already been running on Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil since 53,000KM when I bought it and want to do the full conversion (I've read the thread on wheel bearings, that'll come later).

Anyone know of industry sources I could point the local garage to in order to put them at ease that my truck won't seize up driving off the lot?

Also of note, is a tranny flush needed with my KM? The local shop doesn't have the equipment for that.

Thanks all.

PS: for those of you with Scangauge, there's new software out that upgrades performance monitoring to include HP. I'm sending mine in for the upgrade.

IIRC it's free if you got a Scangauge II from July 07 on. Before that and it's a $25 upgrade.

Update:

Ok, the Nissan dealership is fine with flushing and replacing the transmission oil and differentials with Mobil 1 syth.

I want to get the oil myself, but the manual doesn't indicate the type for an automatic like it does for the manual (75w90). The transfer fluid is listed at 2.2L, I'm gathering this is the differential?

How much should I buy in transmission fluid and what type for a 1st Gen X?

Let me tell you what I used to do for my '02 X. There is a drain bolt in the trans pan so it was easy enough to do. I drained it and filled it back up which for me was always around 3 quarts. Some people say they get more out. I then drove it a little bit then redid this. Drove it then repeated. Totalled about 9 quarts which was IIRC around what the trans holds for the entire system.

I figured draining and refilling 3 times was sufficient to replace the old with the new. Then every 10k miles I would drain and fill it. Only 3 quarts and it gave me piece of mind.

Being formerly employed in transmission testing at For Motor, I saw all the bad things that happens to automatic transmissions so I have over maintained them ever since. I'm not saying you need to do this but it's just how I like to do it.

I did the full flush at 5k miles and then every 10k up to 100k when I traded it in. I used Mobil 1 synthetic.
