: Help putting on 2in body lift
echo_nine 10-17-2010, 10:00 PM any body want to help me put it on? I have some mechanical inclination but am a bit nervous to try this. I picked up the ac kit with the bumper relocation for $100 so now I just need to figure out how to get it on? I can drive an hour or so to whereever to meet and do it. thanks guys:wink-big:
timb. 10-17-2010, 11:46 PM believe to get a body lift done is anywhere from $400-800. i would extend that hour drive time. your best bet is to wait for a mod day and offer to buy the guys lunch and beer in exchange for HELPING you to install the BL. use air tools and mapp gas and you could possibly be on your way in a few hours.....
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 06:50 AM ya of course i would be working and doing whatever i was told. And i guess i can drive 2 hours one way. See the issue is I don't even really have all the tools I would need lol. And yes lunch would be on me. And i can give money for beers lol but its hard for me to get the beer since im only 20.
J Everett 10-18-2010, 07:30 AM Keep an eye out for mod days in your area. The Jersey/Philly guys are having them every couple of months, and I'm sure they'd be happy to include you.
alpine spirit 10-18-2010, 07:54 AM Tip..... Buy some PB Blaster now and start spraying all 10 body mount bolts.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 08:33 AM alright cool guys thanks for the tips. And there is a mod day an hour away from me but they already have more X's then they can handle. So i will just have to keep looking. And yep i got a can of pb that i can start spraying a week in advance.
timb. 10-18-2010, 09:58 AM you should still go if they are doing a bl that day to see what's involved and get to know the guys in your area. i know i am weary of people that are a one shot deal and you help them out (to help the x community out) and you never see them again.....you see we actually don't like to work on trucks on our spare time. i have helped people out (as well as them helping me out) and i never enjoy spending gas and time on someone i don't know. go get some names, make some friends and you will eventually get some help. see you at the next mod day.
ps-can you please do it before the snow plz.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 10:21 AM ha yes i know it seems one wayed so i can pay some cash but i work 7 days a week and goto school full time (4 classes) So i would have to take off work to go to these mod days so i can't be taking off to go to them all the time. To try to make my face know. I see your point tho.
timb. 10-18-2010, 11:19 AM curious why you didn't tackle the pml first? you going to wheel it? if you are remember to remove your rear sway bar (dents the shock eventually). tonka is parting out his truck (see active forum). you could probably trade him (he needs your stock ones) for his life shackles. cheap 1.5" lift.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 11:26 AM yes i am gonna wheel it at rausch at the nextra event. The reason is Im not sure if I want the pml.. and I want to fit 33''s so body lift fits the bill.. and i found the ac kit with the bumper relocation for a $100 so i couldn't pass that up. Its a dd so i don't want it to high and im worried about changing the ride i don't want it to wander or not drive straight after the pml.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 11:29 AM oh yes ive already been on tonkas parting out page im trying to pick up the shrock sliders that are for 2in body lift that another reason i need to do the body lift. And yes i know dimo has dibs but i talked to him and he cant use them because he doesnt have the body lift. And ive talked to tonka too so i have dibs on them right now.
timb. 10-18-2010, 11:51 AM good deal....yeah the SL does change the ride a bit. see you at the demodding day.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 11:52 AM haha sounds good lol are you picking up a part there?
Xterra Mike 10-18-2010, 01:57 PM If you want to come to the demodding day (whenever that is) we might be able to get your BL on and get some parts switched out. I got all the tools we need.
Snow Chaser 10-18-2010, 02:01 PM Hey, make sure to get the thread of the 2 back bolts if you can, you might have to pull the bumper and get up in the underside of the body.
Just follow the bolt up into the body, there is a gap that you can spray through.
After the trouble I had with it, you can't be too careful.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 03:40 PM thans for the tip snow chaser i apprciate all the tips i can get. And yeah xterra mike that would be great if you could do something like that. Ha i have no power tools let alone a complete set of tools. I just broke my 1/2 ratchet trying to unscrew the front diff fill plug. So now i only have my 3/8 ratchet so thats gonna set me back another $20.
echo_nine 10-18-2010, 03:41 PM And pretty much I can get off anyday pretty easy for the demodding day. I haven't taken off from either job for awhile and I can skip my classes for a day lol
haha sounds good lol are you picking up a part there?
He may, but a lot of people just hang along to help out another member and chill with some cool dudes.. :D I've driven to philly a few times just to help out and hang out with the group.. You should definitely attend these events if you can, mod/no mod picking up parts/no parts.. Great time for all..

Your supposed to pull the bumper regardless... lol
Also, i don't think 1.5 gens have the same problems with the back to bolts than you guys too.. He should be good. If not then it just takes a little bit longer to fiddle around with the nut..
timb. 10-18-2010, 08:47 PM if it is at mike's....and he is willing to help-count me in. we can probably do everything by cutting the shifter and possibly the bumpers. hopefully picking up a bumper, but if it falls through my GF lives 5 minutes away. mike has an empty cooler that needs filling ;).

I meant while spraying pb.
When I did my BL the weld on my driver side rear nut broke because the bolt was rust welded.
If I had gotten some PB in there beforehand I might not still be rolling on 9 body mounts.
My hatch barely shuts because that corner is sagging so bad.

The nut is welded to a small plate that is shape like a rectangle, it will rattle but never spin inside the frame horn, you should be able to just replace that if the nut is truly "broken"
Snow Chaser 10-19-2010, 12:00 AM Replace what?
The nut?
Snow Chaser 10-19-2010, 12:03 AM I'm gonna cut out the bolt and the little tab that keeps you from getting to that nut.

You can just bend it with a crow bar..No need to cut, if i remember correctly it was kinda in a weird place anyway.
